I’m going to be spending a few days in Montreal post MT 5150. Can anyone point me in the direction of a group to swim with in Montreal? Otherwise some options for pools to swim at or a thread with some ideas. I couldn’t find much.
Thanks.

I don’t know Montreal very well, but FINA Worlds are going to be held at Parc Jean Drapeau. Looks like a very nice outdoor facility, they are open now according to their website.

There is at least one Montreal YMCA (230 Brunswick Boulevard, near YUL airport) that has a pretty good pool, I used it a bunch of times for some lap swims. You may want to contact them for their hours, and to see if their pool is still open.
Or the Olympic Parc pool
Or Claude Robillard
Or Pointe Claire…
All 10 lane 50m as is Drapeau.
go to www.swimmersguide.com, it is a great site with all swim locations around the world.
I use it all the time for international travel to find a pool. I usually look for a pool first, then a hotel nearby.
Where are you staying?

Thanks, I actually just found that site a few minutes ago, hadn’t seen it before.
I’m not sure where I am staying yet either.
Along these lines, is there somewhere that would be good for an open water swim? I was told there’s a beach on the island that Drapeau is on, but they didn’t know which lake. And having trouble finding anyone who does know. I’m mostly getting laughed at, to be honest; “you want to swim in the river?!?”
Not sure. We will have access to the rowing basin at worlds. Contact the folks at Drapeau and see if there are swim times in the basin that are not advertised.
That’s a good idea. I’ll give them a call in the morning.
Thanks!
If you want to swim in a group, I highly recommend swimming with the McGill University Masters or Tri team. Someone mentioned Pointe Claire but that is out on the West Island. I never swam with the YMCA in Westmount but I heard its also a nice group.
the competition pool at Parc Jean Drapeau is NOT open to the public unless you rent a lane and bring your own lifeguard. You can swim in the warm up pool but its only 4 lanes and always very crowded.
I used to swim in Montreal when I was traveling there frequently last year. The pool at the Parc Olympique is closed for the year for renovations. I’m glad they’re renovating, but otherwise I would have recommended that pool - great place to go and surprisingly few people in the summer.
Open water swim is indeed at Parc Jean Drapeau. The few times I’ve been there it’s been crazy. I’d suggest picking a day when the weather is bad! The rowing basin is open at select times but I never figured out if that’s for a specific event or in general. If you do swim there, careful on your walk down the ramp at the end of the basin. The moss is like ice and you’ll find yourself on your butt in no time.
I don’t know anything about open water swims in the St Lawrence. I wouldn’t recommend it, not because of the water quality, but because of the boat traffic. Some people on their Seadoos are nuts. However, people on the forum might know of safe areas.
Yes there is a beach. Right in the middle of the formula 1 track It’s called Plage Jean Drapeau
There is a bus that goes from the metro station to the main entrance of the beach.
There is a section that is used for open water swimming. Several clubs train there.

downtown ymca has masters Tue and Thur at 6:30AM. Anyone can drop in.
But it’s $17 for a day pass which is pricey
Normally Claude Robillard is free at noon, but check hours since they fall on summer schedule and with the camps it gets crazy.
