Where is the place that everyone swims in Long Beach? I know there is a place that everyone swims at, but I don’t know where it is or how to get there. Someone told me to get off at Main street until it dead ends?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My guess would be either Belmont or Cal State Long Beach.

Main Street? I lived in Long Beach for 18 years and never heard of it. The Belmont pool is located at the base of the Belmont Pier, 2 blocks off Ocean Boulevard, on Termino (turn at the am/pm or Von’s). Most people do their open water swims at “Horny Corner” just off 2nd street on (turn right just before the bridge) Bayshore in Belmont Shores. There is a buoyed off swim area that is about 400yds long. I never swam at Cal State Long Beach so I do not know if it is restricted to students or not.

OT but kind of related - we saw phelps, crocker and a few others at the California Grand Prix back in mid January at Belmont, so cool to watch these world class guys swim.

I’m going to a wedding in Long Beach next weekend (coming out from Philly) and am psyched to get in an open water swim… what are water temps now at “Horny Corner”? Should I bring my wetsuit?
Also, years ago I lived in S.F. and know where to go for a serious buritto when I return to visit friends up north, but where can I get a legit buritto in/around Long Beach when I’m done with that open water swim?
Since I now reside about 1400 miles north of LB in snow country, I can only guess at the temps at “horny corner”. Most likely in the high 50’s/low 60’s depending on ambient temp. It is fairly shallow so it warms up quick if the sun is out. Regardless, a full wetsuit and a hood would be the way to go. Personally, I usually waited until April to get my toes wet in the open water.
Great burritos can be found at the other end of 2nd street (towards downtown LB) at Super Mex. They have other locations in the area as well.

Bring the wetsuit unless you are a fan of polar bear swims. Try to get in a swim at Belmont. The place reeks of history and speed.

I feel like this swim is taking on symbolic importance. Maybe I can take some of that speed (and history) home with me! Thanks for the responses… naive east coaster was thinking “ah it’s southern california, how cold could it be?” Fortunately, you’ve answered that for me before it was too late.
I swim here in Long Beach:

There is usually plenty of parking on the north side of Bay Shore Ave and you walk south to the other side of E 2nd Street where you will find the swim beach.
