Swim Training with a Finis

I received a finis snorkel for Christmas. I have tried a few swims with and I just can’t get comfortable with it. Is this something that just takes a while to get used to? Are you supposed to be able to do flip turns without sucking in a ton of water? Do you need to wear a nose plug? Any opinions on the product as a training tool would be appreciated.

Yes, it takes a while, but many swimmers and coaches swear by them. Some folks need a nose plug, others do not. Try one and see if it helps.

I’ve found it useful for certain drills and for paying closer attention to hand entry and catch stuff. It’s got its place in the bag of swim toys if you know how to use it.

Nose plug, absolutely.

I like it for kicking. Goodbye kickboard.

I like it for freestyle, too, but my shoulders hate it, especially when combined with a pb. No clue why. I rotate even more intentionally, and it doesn’t help. I seem to be the only person with that issue. So it’s no good for a 400 or 600, but for say 40x25y fast, it’s perfect.

I have one that that I won in a raffle but always hated it, hardly use it.
I never thought of using it for kicking… that’s a great idea.
