Swim snorkle choice

Johnny-O says I need to keep my head more in the water. For the upcoming months I am going try doing that. I am going to try a swim snorkel. I went over to the Swim Outlet site. There are lots. Any suggestions. My long term goal is to sub 70 minutes at an IM swim.

Anything center mount. I’m fond of the Phelps one for a slightly taller forehead mount that digs in less. Wider bore as well; adjustable with a limiting plug

i wish i had the phelps one, my buddy does and its better than my speedo, speedo is more straight and too short. the one tower 26 recommends is the good one

I have the Finis one (yellow) and it’s not long enough. I frequently get water in.

Why does jonnyo say that? Is the water line below your eyebrows?

Why can’t you just keep your head lower in the water? Why do you need a snorkel to do that?

You can you the powerbreather!!! I have one & used for about 6-7 times and I just couldn’t get used to swimming with a snorkle…

I don’t want it and willing to sell it so you’re interested let me know!!!

Which powerbreather? The one designed for flip turns? And how much? I have the Phelps one and it’s fine but I can’t do flip turns in it.

That’s the one… PM me your email and I’ll send you pics of it

I also have a power breather and really like it. Can get many more yards in before I feel like I’m suffocating vs a standard center mount . Haven’t had the nerve to try flip turns, though. Have used a solid can to try breathing to the side with it and didn’t care for that .

i like my AMEO power breather - helps makes “stinger” lungs also
.

I have the Phelps one. I went with it since it was the cheapest center mount I could find. It fits nicely against/around the head. I can do flip turns with it, but it takes some practice and you have to do a big powerful breath out to clear it post turn. So I just do open turns when I use it

Tyr. The valve design allows you to expel water that gets in while swimming.

He says that because my body position is no that good.

I can’t keep my head lower in the water because I will die and raccoons will eat my eyeballs and the seagulls at Whoonock Lake will take care of the rest of me.

I don’t KNOW that a snorkel will do anything, other than maybe motivate me to swim a bit more that I am doing now.

Your head position is likely too low if you’re getting water into the Finish Swimmers Snorkel.

What exactly will a center mount snorkel help with? I was thinking of putting together a “swim toy” bag and picking up one. What should one pay attention to when using it?

I’ll add to the PowerBreather fans. I’ve used it for drills and long aerobic swims. Perfect way to work on form.

I didn’t know what a power breather was. So I looked it up. $110+ is really spendy. Wow.

I use a Tyr model, but I’ve also used the finis freestyler and original snorkels. The Tyr bite attachment seems to be more durable than the finis models.
