Looking for some help with my stroke. Recommendations for solid masters groups are welcome too. Thanks.
Target Training in Westport. Ask for Eneas or Dom. Really good for technique.
Greenwich Y has a tri-masters club that swims and has their own lanes. The coaches are the same coaches for the swim teams. Some of those coaches can be brutal, especially the femalle coaches.
Oh yeah, one more, if you like being yelled at in an Irish accent, you can use Eugene Doherty. PM me for his contact info. He is in Rye, NY, but is often around Greenwich.
Where do you swim now?
Eugene coaches?
Eugene coaches?
Yes Kevin, when he’s not being run over by cars and making sure I’m all set for races, he coaches at the Rye Y.
Eugene and I took the USAT Coaching Level 1 this summer in NJ, but he has always coached swimming. I’m more about trying to fire up my kids in the hopes that some Pratt family member will make it to the olympics.
With the amount of talent in Westchester and Greenwich, you would think we could cultivate at least one kid through to the olympics for triathlon. I intend to be the Psych Coach!!! Bobby McGee, watch out, I’m gunning for your job!!
Here is 1 year ago:

Then I got help from Finding Freestyle and Eugene Doherty for 6 months:

This was a couple of weeks ago after some help from Megan at Target Training:

The last video was the first day of the new stroke (sorry for the 12 seconds of staring at the clock at the begining). I have smoothed out the recovery a bit and added speed to it. I’m now taking less strokes and going faster over 400 and 800 times. I found my old stroke was faster for 100 yard sprints, but not for longer distances as I would get too tired.
I suggest Finding Freestyle to get the basics and find your own form, Eugene for base training and to help visually correct flaws, and Target Training for refinement and tweaks.
Usually swim early AMs in G’wich depending on schedule. Am a decent triathlon swimmer but want to get better (where better = more efficient and hopefully faster). Have bounced some PMs back and forth with the FF guys - that’s certainly an option to start. I would just prefer to have someone more hands on watch me swim and tell me where I need work.
I can meet yout tomorrow morning at the Greenwich Y. It’s “Long Course Tuesday” (almost can convince myself it’s the same thing as a bar with drink specials).
I will be ther around 5:45am to do about 3k. I’ll have the pink ITP swim cap by my fins, the water is too warm to actually wear a cap without overheating. I can bring my camera an record you so you can see what needs work. There are several of us from Target Training that swim at the Greenwich Y (not part of the tri masters). The list includes 2 male Kona Finishers (by IMLP Qualification), 2 female Elite Amateurs (one of the females is faster in the water than a lot of pro’s and she is on this forum sometimes), 1 Xterra World’s athlete (he doesn’t swim through the water, the water moves around him, this guy can pull hard), and a few others.
I can take a look and possibly guide you in the right direction.
As for me…thank god for rubber buoyant suits!!!
