Swim 100K in November.....FINAL RESULTS

97,300m as of 11/15
.

54,000 as of 11/8… flew to Vegas in the evening.
11/9 - 5,000 at the pool
11/10 - 6,000 at the pool
11/11 - I wanted to swim the course, but it was closed. Then, I decided to get in the pool, but it was also closed. Great pre-race warm up. Anyway, I ended up getting in the hotel pool with baggy shorts on and doing about 20 minutes worth of flip turns with 3 strokes between each one. Call that another 1,000.
11/12 - race 4,358 yards, give or take. With warm up, I’d call that 5K.
11/13 - slept in, hung out in Vegas - nil
11/14 - went up Mt. Charleston for about a 2.5 hour hike close to 10K ft. in elevation, although I couldn’t find the trail that went to the peak. It was a good time, but no swimming. Had a good buffet for dinner and lost some money playing blackjack to the very last minute before catching the red eye home.
11/15 - Arrived at 7 AM and went to work at 8 AM. I’m going straight to bed, so another goose egg for the day. I’ll probably get in tomorrow. I told you this was my easy month.
TOTAL as of 11/15 = 71,000.

So I swam today! 2700 yds. The shoulder thing is still bothering me. I went to get a massage today and the therapist dug into it - there’s this little tiny knot and he told me it’s muscle fibers “stuck together.” Yeah well get them apart so I can swim! It feels wierd now, I can feel the spot’s presence but I’m not in pain… so I don’t know how much swimming I’ll be able to do, will have to wait and see tomorrow. It’s so frustrating, I miss swimming sooooo much! Anyway… today was something… I doubt I’ll get to 100k by the end of the month! I’ll be happy if I can just be able to do a 6-7k workout by the end of the month!

whining over. :stuck_out_tongue:

hang in there…and don’t go swimming 10k tomorrow and hurting yourself even more. Let it heal. After my dismal showing thus far, I may start the 150K december challenge.

I went to the pool last night geared up to put in 5 or 6K. They closed early since it rained earlier in the day and no one had used the pool all day!

ARGH.

I’m now at 33000.

100,000m in a month is methodical? Yikes. I would characterize it as aggressive, but methodical? What have you been doing before Nov.?

Also, and this is a serious question, what makes you think that swimming a load in Nov. and then hibernating until January is going to help?

Thanks-
Rick

As of 11/14 I put in another 2500 so I’m now at 8500m. Yeah, baby! I’m heading to the pool tonight for another great session - hoping for about 2K. I’ll probably see Baldric there. Looking like a prune. Sheesh!

After my dismal showing thus far, I may start the 150K december challenge.

nice, I’ll have a chance to redeem myself… I’m at a little over a million yards for the year, November is dropping my monthly average like mad! AAA!

I won’t actually hibernate. I’ll probably go easy for a week, maintain sensible training volume until Christmas, and take a 1-2week “unload” break. I’d only consider doing something like this once per year. That said, one needs to be aggressive at certain points in the season. You can only maintain such focus for so long, but given adequate rest the body should superadapt and be even more receptive to future training. I hope that makes sense ( I shouldn’t write when I’m semi-conscious).

Before November my biggest week was 13k, longest training session was 5k. That was in the middle of race season, however, so there’s only so much training one can do.

106,300m as of 11/15.

I’m at 48,500 as of 11/16.

bump to get this to page 1. 116K in 16 days deserves some props.

3600 as of this AM.

yes, it certainly does!

3000 yds for me today, with main sets 16x50 on :45 and 4x150 on 2:10. I’m out of shape, but my shoulder didn’t hurt, and ohmygod did it feel good to swim.

150’s on the 2:10…you’re so out of shape!!

I swim 150’s on about the same interval, btw…but that’s good for me.

i took the last 2 1/2 days off everything since i’ve been getting my ass kicked in school… i’ll make all that up this weekend

I’m seeing some nutty intervals being posted, way to go. I’m not risking much speed at the moment, focusing on steady long repeats and strength work (not much kick, lots of pull and paddle). Funny, I just realized that it’s like learning to walk again… on your hands. You just keep baby-stepping and gradually you find the most efficient way to walk. The muscles and techniques take time to develop, but perseverance pays off. Nothing fancy, just putting in the miles.

Strong on the Second Half!

124,300m as of 11/16.

Damn. Do you live in the pool? Are you training 2 x per day?

Nice work.
