Above is a link to my most recent blog, its been pretty amazing how much running I have been doing here at camp, out on the pavement, in a pair of neutral racing/training shoes (the Avia Bolts)…something int eh past that would have had me out for a month with a stress reaction or fracture…its been about 8 years waiting to run this much without any pain, its gooooood
.
it s been awesome to see zach able to run on pavement and anywhere really for the first time of his career without injury… hope it will last! I know him for a long time and he as never been able to be healthy in the past few season under any running program but this time, it might just work out!
Surprising because we are sure getting the sh%T kick out of ourself at this TBB training camp!
Well, I’m runing alot more volume now, and with more intensity(not on all runs though) so it wasn’t Intensity or Duration change. Form has pretty much been kept the same, just remember to do a few things that were helping me already in my form…
the setup of the program(spacing of the runs, speeds, terrain), how we get to and from places, the shoes are designed very well(especially the heel).
As you know, I have had all kinds of problems too. 3 months of shin splints, some lower leg tendinits, a sprained ankle and some ITBS. All in 2008! Miraculously, these problems would clear up before the big races, like IMCDA and Kona, but it sure doesn’t help with the training. Of all of these things, shin splints is the most annoying and it’s creeping up again at the moment. I recall you trying pretty much anything, any remedy, hoping and praying it would work. I pretty much wear those old man socks you bought in Clermont everywhere i go these days. Maybe I should just buy a pair of those Avias and run every day.
Anyone know how these fit? I have a fairly narrow foot, use the Asics DX trainer or Nike Air Skylon. Think any of their shoes would work for me? I’d love to try them, as i think they look nice. Noone around me carries them.
From what I understand, a ton of the new shoes just landed on U.S. shores. Some were at Sea Otter, and I know a bunch will be at Wildflower… not sure if they will be for sale, for test or for show. But if you’re going to Wildflower, it may be worth bringing your checkbook, as these new ones are pretty impressive.
From what I’ve seen, they seem fairly average in width; not super narrow, and certainly not wide. The materials use (specifically rubber placement/durometer), and general design seem like a major improvement in both the AviBolt and AviStoltz. I’m actually planning on talking to one of the designers (Ike) at Wildflower next weekend about the shoe design and aim to have a video of that chat at the Triathlete magazine website soon after Wildflower.
Thanks, Jay. I was looking at the Bolt and Liteweight shoe. I’m ready to pull the trigger, but wish i had a look at them and run test run first. Thanks for your input.
I ought to have some to test soon (and will probably do some reporting on my blog), but I think TeamTBB athletes will be running in the new Bolt at Wildflower. I may be wrong but I think at this point those are the only people that have them thus far aside from a few key retailers.
We will have the new Avi-Stoltz and Avi-Bolt II available for sale at Wildflower. We’ll have two expo areas set up, one up near the campgrounds and the other down by transition. Please come by and give 'em a try. Our marekting staff, as well as some of the developers, will be on-site to answer any questions.
I just started running in AVIAs after nearly eleven years in something else, primarily ASICS. The faster shoes (Stoltz, Bolt, Lite II) tend to fit pretty average, while some of the others tend to fit a little wide in the toe box. The two new shoes and the updated Lite II are really nice shoes. They don’t have quite the stability I need, so I’m finding myself favoring the Avi-Rhythm and Avi-Lite Guide.
The Stoltz and Bolt II should be at retail in next few weeks. You can also check our events calendar at www.avia.com to see where we’ll be.
Thanks jonnyo! It sounds like those are very nice. Please let me know more as you run a bit more in them. I thought the Stoltz was more of an off road shoe, but I guess I need to research a bit more.
