I actually wonder if someone’s lawyer could get social media posts then sue the social media companies for rage baiting weak minds and pushing them that last step into assault and battery.

You see it everywhere. Rage baiting about cyclists. Rage bait about scooters. Rage bait about run or triathlon races blocked traffic. Rage bait everywhere.

These people consume this stuff like breathing air. Then we wonder why we see what we see.

Stuff like this freaks me out a little bit. 95% of drivers pass me really wide and are very courteous. 4% will be assholes, passing close or revving their engine, maybe honking loudly. I’ve had a few roll down windows and shout obscenities at me or people riding with me.

But there’s always a chance that you have one of the 1% who are truly insane like this guy. I won’t stop riding outside, because I love it and I didn’t get into triathlon to sit indoors on beautiful sunny days. But when I encounter one of those drivers who screams out their window at me, I wonder how close they are to becoming like this.

At least the police took it seriously. He pulled a knife on officers and it took a SWAT team to bring him out. He’s not getting off the hook for that.

I live in Savannah, GA and nearly 100% of the motorists are extremely courteous. Some ride a little close because they don’t want to wait for passing traffic to do their thing but it all works out. Ive had some motorists do shitty things around traffic circles and places like that and it’s usually met with a middle finger in the air and then everybody goes their own way. New Jersey has pretty courteous drivers from a cyclists perspective but in more rural areas of the country it gets dicey. What’s with the hostility towards somebody on a bike? Why are some people willing to go to jail over things like this? My advice to some cyclists would be to line up and hug the white line on the right. You can take the whole lane but sometimes this is not necessary. Work with the cars and the cars will work with you. My advice to some motorists is to chill out and relax. Everybody has the right to use the road but everybody has to work together.
