Olympic gold medallist Gwen Jorgensen is set to line up at Ascension Seton Supertri Austin on May 25, as the first edition of the Supertri Pro Series kicks-off a huge day of professional and amateur racing.

Jorgensen, who claimed Olympic gold in Rio in 2016, is among a strong international and American professional field confirmed for the race. The 40-year-old mother of two left triathlon for marathon running after her Olympic glory, but returned to the sport and remains one of the USA’s highest profile triathletes. She is currently ranked 10th in the World Triathlon Championship Series standings.

The Supertri Pro Series sees elite athletes compete over a draft-legal sprint distance format, with thousands of amateur triathletes taking on the same mutli-lap course that heads to the Texas State Capitol on Memorial Day.

In the men’s field, Olympic gold medallist Tim Hellwig, who collected mixed team gold with Germany in Paris, is making his way back to the top after injury and lines up alongside Seth Rider, who was part of the USA’s Olympic silver medal winning mixed relay team in Paris.

Three athletes per gender will qualify for the Supertri Pro Series Final with its $800,000 prize pool. Supertri Pro Series events all pay 10 deep to encourage athlete development. Supertri has partnered with USA Triathlon to offer elite racing development opportunities in Austin.

Amateur athletes can still register to race at Ascension Seton Supertri Austin across SuperSprint, Sprint and Olympic distances. Every amateur races on the same course as the professionals.

Entries are available at the Supertri website.

Never knew you could post whole articles like that above by a simple copy n paste, anyway the eagle eyes amongst you may notice their July date clashes with ITU London that weekend.

Looks like they’ve got rid of all the teams format now?

A bit underwelming that start list, I’m surprised more athletes are not interested. Hopefully the one in the UK will be a little more dense and diverse. Where are all the Project Podium athletes ? Surely they’re not all getting invites to the final ?

Yes, I was hoping things would pick up from last years start lists, its sad to see it go like this.

Pat said on the PTN pod that the top ten (?from last year) are getting a bye to the final.
“The Supertri Pro Series Final will see the qualifiers (three women and three men) join Supertri’s all-star central athlete roster” (who dey?)

This start list suggests supertri is a busted flush. Prove me wrong (after Toronto in late July) but losing the team wheeze, whilst it had its presentational and practical disadvantages, at least gave stuff to talk about. Prize money for these ‘feeder’ races is minimal: $5,000 for the winner paying ten deep (?to $500?). The big bucks (and low taxes) are on the Channel Island.

Having this race in Texas slap in the middle of the main WTCS set of spring/early summer races means it is getting a damn good ignoring. I assume Hellwig is not in the top 10 after injury time off last year and has to qualify for the final yet wants to keep June and July clear. Besides Rider, Hellwig and Jorgensen this is a C- level domestic race. Where are the Canadians or Mexicans, even?. Rider is on the start list for Alghero a week later, btw.
Some Brits and continentals will do Blenheim:they’ve announced Fullagar, Vermeylen and Casillas García (3x Olympian) and on the men’s side: McQueen and Kolkman.
And then revert to Toronto in July - domestic NA field incoming.

The final was recently announced: Jersey in early September - enduro format - and will have an excellent/strong field ($$$). Whereas the season ones are straight sprints (and look to be eminently unwatchable btw).

Um, eminently unwatchable means no coverage?

I’ve looked and couldn’t find any. Anyway, since they are now straight sprints with lesser names, my interest has declined. Shame, used to love watching Supertri

More detail in @rrheisler 's article. Looks like this doesn’t kick in till Toronto but that might be out of date.

without the coach being one of the teams there is probably no desire to do ST. Several of the athletes are legit LA worthy candidates (at least top 10 men right now in the pecking order) so some have no need to race essentially a Conti cup level race. Some in the PP stable would likely benefit from racing as many DL races as possible, who aren’t necessarily ready / in the LA candidacy. It seems as if all of a sudden ST has fallen in status, but again there seems to be as busy of a schedule now more than ever.

It seemed that supertri (Championship Series, Supertri League and then Supertri Pro Series) used to schedule their events carefully to allow SC athletes to race the August-October WTS/WTCS races without detriment. But late May and early June!? And why go up against WTCS London on 26 July?

That’s not how I see it. There is now only one supertri race (the final). The rest are, as is plain to see, minor PRO fields tacked on to the mass participation events acquired or contracted by the company. A simple 75% cut in the number of bona fide supertri events, which they buried under a mountain of word salad in that press statement announcing the “unification of pro and ag racing”. That is all.

I wonder how strong the individual qualifier athletes are to get into the main race show. Having top 10 talent in the world (athletes who already made it to the ST Final) racing beside some potential lower ability level athletes may not be the greatest idea for anyone.

Just had a quick look on Supertri YT channel and nothing uploaded, can anyone link me up with yesterday’s races please (preferably with no spoilers)

The results were unsurprising. I will not link to the tri247 article as it would spoil it for you.
Astonishingly (not) the winners’ names are included in the article’s title.
Don’t look at this rather barren thread either: Where is SUPERTRI? Can’t find today’s pro race anywhere
Eleanor Beveridge, Zuzana Michaliková and Joy Gill were all in contention: as an aficionado of the sport you’ll know how good they are.

In the article it again refers to “central Supertri athletes” (believe 10+10) who are being given a bye to the final in Jersey where the $$$ are. Anyone got a link to or list of these athletes?

Mackenzie McConagha is she greg harper’s wife? (pink)
the poor girl ( a pretty good swimmer, 2.12for 200 fly lcm ) does her first European cup race and the swim got cancelled …

It’s interesting that this year’s ST was tacked onto CapTex which is probaly one of the top 5 olympic distance races in the country. Very long standing race, always raced on Monday of Memorial day, waaay back in the day had solid elite fields, etc. Roughly same numbers of participants from 2025 to 2026 (much less total participants the last few years than what that event had when it was easily ~2k athletes; the past 2 years closer to ~1400). I knew people there, SuperTri* had on site staff for interviews that they normally do, just not a broadcast.

I don’t know what it all means other than a major step back if only 1 event is the “main event” and broadcasted, while the others are just a random footnote on a results page or some IG post. I can’t remember the prize purse here at this race, I think the winner only got $5k, so looks like a total prize purse of $35k total according to google search.

It is a shame that it has dropped from highly contemded , well paying events to what this 2026 season is. I guess those athletes capable and interested in something different moved towards t100, leaving superleague with not enough big contenders. Unless it is just the money drying up and the big names not interested in racing for peanuts. The capable athletes would be earning more in the French gp or even Bundesliga races than these lead up series races. Much closer to home for the European based athletes too.

Total shame because honestly the super sprint distance is probaly the best broadcastable product our sport can offer. I won’t lie ST, lost me when they did the “team” thing, but it was kinda teams but not really, but it was. Like just put the 20 best SC athletes together and let them all just race the hell out of each other for an hour (enduro). I *think they were going with the team idea that big companies were going come in and fund the salaries, etc and that probaly never happened.

Yeah, I think they hoped to have money sponsors support the teams, I think I remember them having mixed relay with sponsors included with members of their team at an event

I attended the SuperTri race in Chicago in 2024, and it was full of stars. Potter, GTB, Waugh, Beaugrand, Lehair, Spivey, Yee, Wilde, Hauser, Vilaça, V. Luis, Bergere, and more. So many Olympic medalists in one place! It was perfect timing—right after the Olympics when everyone was in shape and ready to cash some checks in a low pressure environment. It was still pretty good in 2025, and I got to talk with GTB and Jonny Brownlee, but not at the same level. I wish I’d appreciated it more at the time, especially since now that it’s a very reduced version of its former self.
