Superseal: is it a good choice?

I’ve done it a couple of times and it is a great early season race, well run and very competitive. Be prepared for some chilly conditions early, especially if the fog rolls in, and a quick warm up once the sun comes out.

Superseal Olympic in Coronado mid-March. Yay or Nay? Thank you in advance for your opinion.

Do you live in SoCal? If so, do Desert Triathlon in La Quinta

Good prep race for Oceanside. I did it this year and it was a good race. Bike is flat, but half of it is windy.

Did it last year. It has good competition and can be a fast course.

The bike was 3k long which is pretty lame considering there are 4 uturns. RD 101 come on. Superfrog had a long bike too and its the same group so I’m not surprised.

Decent road surface and the course isn’t crowded. No traffic.

Thanks! It sounds like my kind of race!

I did it last year and would recommend it IF you don’t mind a cold swim. It wasn’t insanely cold, but it was cold. Low 50s, I think. Very low key for an M-dot branded race. Decent (not great, not bad) pavement on the bike, a closed road as I recall (I’m pretty sure they gave the triathletes the northbound two lanes of 75 and routed traffic onto the southbound lanes, and a fast run. Be prepared for speedsters; there are lots of very fast locals who come out to do this race.

Low 50’s is pretty cold. That’s almost headache inducing? I did Pacific Grove Tri once, and I think the water was maybe low 50’s. Maybe worth wearing 2 swim caps?

Low key is a plus to me. I’ll be thankful for decent pavement for the bike. Thanks for the info!

Yes.

Swim is usually very calm and on the bay side.
Bike is flat and fast (although can be breezy).
Run is flat and fast.

It is a super fast field and very competitive. As someone else said it a good little Oceanside warm-up.

Just wear a squid lid. You won’t be alone, and you’ll be a lot more comfortable.

Did it 2018/this year … mid 60s swim; I brought both but wore my sleeveless wetsuit. Windy and a little rainy though so lots of people in arm warmers and jackets on the bike. Prepare for anything; it’s a fun early-season race.
