I am always amazed that Super League gets so little love around here but for those who are fans, the London Arena Games are on in a few hours…Should be a great show and will be interesting to see how Lucy Charles-Barclay and Tim Don fare against the speedy short course folks.
.
Hopefully this thread won’t end up like the rough ride that is the IronCowboy coverage,is more positive than all the doping threads and that it proves to ST’ers ,that triathlons are possible without Lionel involved.
No one cares about pro athletes around here. IC gets more air time on the ST channel. The only hope for any ST interest is if Lionel was in it. Lionel is a faster version of IC. He’s one of us, mucking around doing crazy things over and over trying to keep Frodo and Brownlee honest. No Lionel, No IC, No ST interest.
But thanks for the reminder. I just went to flobikes.com to watch some of the Volta Catalunya stage 6 and see that I have coverage for Arena London for free!!!
LCB has talked before about wanting to compete at the olympics. I wonder after this performance knowing she can compete over shorter distances (obviously would not be used to drafting on the bike, but I’m sure with a bit of work she would be fine riding in a pack) if she may consider trying to qualify for the 2024 olympics, she would still be in her 20’s, so I don’t think it;s out of the question.

Not out of the question with her swim background. But I’d like to see her in a proper ITU race before drawing any conclusions. The laned pool swim and treadmill run are very different from what a “real” race is like.
GB womens team will still be incredibly hard to qualify for in 2024, so it is a risk to leave regular podiums in long course (No2 in the world) for ITU where she would potentially further down the field, maybe even outside top 10 initially.

I think it might help up her long course game though. She’s never really had the bike/run intensity that you get from that kind of racing. Would be interesting to see at least.
I love SL. But I just can’t get into any virtual racing. I’ve tried watching but just don’t enjoy it at all
I am watching the replay and really enjoying it. Lucy’s swim advantage is magnified since no one gets to draft her on the swim. Lucy would not have this advantage in a real ITU race. So zero draft swim, draft legal bike, and zero draft run.
one more thing about going fast in this racing format. On the curve treadmill it makes no sense to use those high spring, high padding Nike spring shoes. I would think you want to use the hardest sole shoes that you can handle since going fast on the curve treadmill is about the front half of the stride and you don’t want to lose energy in foam, just grab the belt with your foot and flick it backwards

the run times seemed a lot slower than expected, which I guess is down to the treadmill. Men were doing around 18/19km/h most of the time, outdoors they would be doing that or even faster over 10km.
Kind of annoying that they didn’t keep you updated on the overall standings. They didn’t even put it up on the screen at the end and then you suddenly see 2 and 3rd place already with their medals in the background. That part could have certainly been done better.
I don’t see the point of the curve treadmills. Including the diving tank, a loop around the aquatic center pools would be 200m…they could have just ran loops

In one of the lead in interviews for Super League (post Miami) she pretty much said that she wants to do some shorter World Triathlon races and maybe an Olympics but wants to tick off a Kona win first. She seems frustrated by her string of second place finishes and wants to get the big win before switching distances.

I would be surprised if she doesn’t win Kona at some stage. Not many long distance triathletes have been that good at such a young age. But there is a limit to how long she has to switch to ITU, most of them are in their 20’s. She still has another 10-15 years at the top left in Ironman, so could always come back after an ITU stint
Really enjoyed that, fair play to Superleague to get that going with all whats going on at the moment, couldn’t have been easy.
I’d noticed Beth Potter doing quite well on Zwift bike Tri races recently and her WC win in Valencia it wasn’t a huge surprise to see her win this, I was actually more surprised at Lucy Charles doing so well at the shorter distance.
I just wonder if Beth can properly break through as a solid top 10 ITU athlete/podium its difficult to tell. If form from her last two races is anything to go by (and I know these were significantly weak fields) she’ll be giving Brit Olympic team selectors a ‘what if’ going into Tokyo, on that note anyone know why Vicky Holland wasn’t racing?
I love the fact Tim Don raced this, Jonny Brownlee’s bad run of form follows him through to this year.
SL didn’t really keep us updated with who was in what position overall, the whole thing seemed incredibly rushed, maybe they could have given us ten minutes between each race to digest what had happened get a couple of interviews in and analysis of who needed to come where to win.
We only got a 2 seconds flash of a leader/position board in between races, the podium wasn’t announced very well at the end either.
