Sunglasses for TT position?

Hi guys, could you recommend me some good sunglasses which would be comfortable to me in aggressive TT position? I have Giro aerohead helmet, but i use it only for race days. For my training i want to get just regular sunglasses with road helmet. What about Oakley Fly Jacket? Have anybody used it yet? Or some any good brands and models for the TT? Thanks.

I did a article a few years back on a pair of $10 rimless sunglasses that do the job and you don’t really care if you lose, scartch, drop etc… The best Oakley product I have found is the EvZero. They are essentially rimless and have really wide coverage. The lines in the picture actually can’t be seen from within the inside hence why I say they are really rimless.

I have been using Smith rimless glasses for years and love them especially for the tt bike. Their lenses, durability and quality has been great. Oakleys used to make my eyes sore after wearing them a long time due to their cheap lenses years ago and I think they have improved but still over priced IMO. Check on eBay as I use the Pivlock and can pick up a new pair cheap.

X2 on the Oakley Evzeros! Got a pair this year and they are phenomenal. Super light… I feel like I’m wearing a visor when I ride! So much so, that it’s basically squashed my desire to get a TT lid with a built in one! Lol.

Edit: I don’t pay out of pocket for my sunglasses.

I love Smith Optics but you can’t say Oakley is overpriced when a pair of Pivlocks runs $249…geez!

That’s why I said get on eBay as I have never paid over $100. Not sure what they retail for in a store but you will struggle to find Oakley at such discounted prices. That and I’ve always found Oakley quality shit in comparison.

I picked up a set of the Thomas Gerlach cheap ones, I can’t justify the cost of the top of the line brands as I break things easily…they seem to do the job, I do wish they lens were a little larger, but I have enjoyed not having a rim to try and look around!

i like the Smith Pivlock, i have the “max” version. Its a bigger lens so I get full coverage. even with my head down and my eyes rolled up looking out through my eyebrows I’m still looking through the lens. they are pricey, but personally i have a good history of not destroying sunglasses so I dont mind paying extra. they are almost $200, but they do come light an extra lens for low-light conditions which is nice for those early morning overcast rides or sprint races. I use them with an A2 helmet (small) with no interference problems.

+1

I have a narrow face and use Mini Ztek glasses. They are rimless, about $5 and come in a bunch of colors.

+1. The Siths are the gold standard of TT glass.

Oakley EVZero much better coverage than my tifosi rimless.

Note: my wife works at the holding company of Oakley so I get them at a discount.

I got a cheap pair on amazon for less than $20 with interchangeable lenses as even when there’s no sun I wear clear lenses as I fear something flying into my eye. I’ve had them a year with no issues.

Great tip, thanks so much. Do you by any chance have long eyelashes? Quite a few affordable rimless models fit me but without fail my eyelashes scrape the inside of the lenses.

Great question, I’m happy to be getting the info from the suggestions as well.

I additionally have really long eyelashes and fairly shallow eye sockets so my lashes are always scraping the inside of the lenses. No not that big a deal but really irritating after 180km (pretty much by 50km!)

The best I’ve found in that regard are Maui Jims. Couple of pro cyclists I know and Chris Lieto have the same eyelash problems and they go with Maui Jims as well. Not cheap but hella durable, have had the same pair 6.5yr now

Go on the Rudy Project website, they are always clearancing out a bunch of really nice glasses for cheap.

Hello Shambolic and All,

Smith PIvlocks look nice but like the Oakley EVO have a limited selection of colored Polarized lens.

Oakley Radar has a good selection of colored Polarized lens (and replacement lens for when they get scratched):

I have really long eye-lashes and I have never noticed my eyelashes scraping the inside of the lens. It must be something I just don’t notice in general because I have numerous people comment on how long my eye-lashes. Maybe it is my nose though too. I have a pretty bulky nose and that may push the frames further away from my face.

I started using the Oakley evzero’s (path prizm road I think) after using the radar’s for the past few years. Been pretty happy so far. I bought them from 6pm.com and they were right around $100

I use and like the Tifosi Podiums… not super $$ and rimless along the top edge. You can also swap around lenses. After buying mine I splurged for the red mirror lens.

TG (thanks!) mentioned them in his cheap sunglass writeup and I scored my pair off of E-Bay for less than $20 or so.
