I am looking for solutions to storing sunglasses on your bike while riding. I start my ride before sunup and don’t need my shades, later I will need them. Tried putting them in my rear jersey pocket but they get smudged from all the sweating and I don’t want to carry a case back there. Tried attaching them to the top tube but sweat drips off my face onto them. Have seen some folks attach them backwards on their helmets but, I could not get them to stay. I am riding a standard road bike and my sunglasses are the type that go over prescription glasses. Any suggestions?

Maybe something like this. Had one on my old car visor and the clip seemed pretty good. Would test it with something first but it would be fast.
The cyclist’s response would be to get a pair of cycling-specific sunglasses that will fit between the vents. The prescription insert goes into the glasses, not the other way around
Seriously, it’s worth it. I use Smith Optics Pivlock V2 now, was on the v1 before and Rudy Project Rydons before those, all with an insert. They stay put far better during exercise than my prescription glasses, and that by itself is a good reason to prefer them. Dorky as it may be, I’ve sometimes even opted for a clear lens on the sports glasses for runs at night over the bouncing of my everyday glasses.
Have you considered buying a top tube feed bag, like a low tech version of the bento boxes that you see on a lot of tt bikes?
Something like this:

I gave an old one that I used for food to my girlfriend, but she just uses it for keeping her phone & keys etc in and it works great for her.
I’ve got a microfiber pouch with a drawstring that came with my glasses. I stick my sunglasses in that and carry them in one of my jersey pockets. The microfiber pouch is handy because you can also use it to clean the lenses.

How about photochromatic lenses? I have a pair of Tifossi glasses that I can wear even while running at night with a head lamp, and in daylight they convert to sunglasses.
I wear photochromatic lenses but I prefer darker lenses while cycling. Also I like my shades to wrap around the sides. How about photochromatic lenses?
I have tried a microfiber pouch however, it just gets soaked in sweat since I sweat a great deal. I guess I could put the pouch in a ziplock baggie.I’ve got a microfiber pouch with a drawstring that came with my glasses. I stick my sunglasses in that and carry them in one of my jersey pockets. I actually do have an old top tube bag which mounts right behind the stem. I am not sure how much sweat would get in there but, may try this since I already have it.
I have a couple of these clip but am not sure how I would mount it on my bike. http://www.amazon.com/...lasses/dp/B004SBNU4U

About how much do they cost? I would love to have some cycling specific shades but suspect due to the cost this is one of those things that I will have to wait for.The cyclist’s response would be to get a pair of cycling-specific sunglasses that will fit between the vents. Fold them up and put one of the temples/earpieces down your jersey behind your neck. Problem solved. Looks pro too, so you would have that going for you, which is nice.

Either this or flip them upside down and lot them behind your head with the arms ontop of your ears. Basically wearing them upside down and on the back of your head.

List price for Smiths is ~$150 if I remember correctly (different currency and taxes in my country…) with three lenses (dark, red and clear) included. Plenty of them used on ST classifieds. Rudy have been around for ages so tons of used options too.
Obviously it’s not cheap, but it was my first investment in sports. Being able to see, comfortably and safely, was a far bigger priority than a carbon bike or good bibs…
At least in Canada, Ryders glasses are at every LBS for under $50. Quality/price ratio is probably the best you’ll ever see.
I suspect you’re not putting your current sun glasses into the vents upside down which will help a great deal.
Thanks, for the ideas folks. When trying to get them on the back of my helmet I did not think to try putting them upside-down. Also did not try putting them on the back collar of my jersey. Figured it may not stay there but, will give it a go.
If your only problem with putting them in your back jersey pocket is sweat/smudges, then a zip lock baggie should do the trick.
Back of your helmet? They go on the front!
Depends.
