Sun protection shirt for swimming

have an apt with the derm already scheduled for a suspicious area the just popped up on my forearm. I’m in the tropical sun for training and while I try to finish my runs before 9am and open water swim with a rash guard, and apply sunscreen (Noxema sport stuff) liberally, I think I need something better. I can get the arm “warmers” for cycling but what can I do for swimming? I’m worried about 2 things - the rashguards will make warm swims (open water - Caribbean) even more more hot and in the pool they will break down to nothing. I’m guessing the Aussies have this covered somewhere? Halp!

Try the Under Armour HeatGear compression tops. They are UPF50, and thinner/cooler than rashguards. The men’s has a higher collar which may help. (http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/mens-heatgear-longsleeve/pid1201163-600)

Some swim shops also offer “modesty” full body suits, but those really aren’t for performance swimming.

Cornflower = blue
Coral = pink

Rocket Science made the Rocket Suit, which was long sleeve. Other long sleeve swimskins were probably made, and would now not be race legal. Henderson makes long suits for snorkeling purposes. Rash guards work. Under Armour works. Tight is good. These all retain some heat, so you’ll have to pick one that works for you. If you can’t find a long sleeve suit you like, grab a now cheap illegal suit like the Blue Seventy full pz3+ and sew Under Armour arms onto it. Your back, arms and legs will be covered, and you’ll cruise.

In case you haven’t discovered it yet, diaper cream is great swimming sun protection for the back of your neck. Zinc oxide is usually expensive in tubes sold for sun protection. Baby diaper cream has a higher percentage of zinc, is waterproof, and comes in huge, cheap tubes.

Look at the gear surfers wear. They will be tight to keep from chaffing when paddling out and will have sun protection. Something like this http://www.sunprecautions.com/product/16400

I’m worried about … in the pool they will break down to nothing.
Don’t forget to address this fullas. Lots of surf dive suits no good for chlorine.

No, I didn’t know any of that. thanks! Right now I use a short sleeved rash guard but with this spot on my forearm, I’m thinking I need to go long-sleeved and white (as the waters are warm down here)

I’ll do both! thanks! :slight_smile:

Any surf shop will have good ones. If you do not live close to any you can order online from valsurf or swell.com. (disclaimer: I have not used either of those sites)
