I may have a week or two free before going back to work. The wife will let me take a solo training type trip. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Info about what I am looking for and myself:
Travel anywhere in the USA is fine
Ideally I would like to do a ton of swim, bike, run but it could be more focused on a single sport
Tri training camps are fine (I just don’t see a ton out there)
Another type of trip (i.e. hiking, mountain biking) would be ok too
Looking for an inexpensive city
Easy logistics on swim/bike/run that is close to the hotel (i.e. I don’t want to travel or deal with tons of traffice getting to each workout)
Male, 38 yrs old and am fine traveling & exploring by myself
One thought I had was Lake Placid (which I have been a few times before) b/c of Mirror Lake swimming and the great biking & running. Plus it is not extremely expensive if timing is right.
I haven’t been to Tucson or San Diego and thought about those……
Our club is going to Baraboo wisconsin. Exceptional hills, a nice pristine lake to swim, and did I say hills? Rent a cabin cheap…not far from Madison, WI.
Sure. I can get you the name of the cottages, and maps of the routes they do. It’s VERY tough riding, but great training. Also, a very nice lake that’s crystal clear and no boats.
We are going to Chattanooga with a small group this year for some focused IM training - good variety of hills, easy drive from where we live, reasonably nice downtown area. Thought about Boulder but a bit more expensive and didn’t want to deal with the altitude taking away from our workouts. Not sure about places to swim in Chattanooga however
well in the summer, Tucson isn’t really ideal. It’s a bit warm, you need to start about 5am and be done with outdoor activities by about 10 unless you like 1. 100F+ temps and 2. getting sunburns.
Swimming you can do in the mid afternoon but all the city pools are about 88F on a cold day.
If you are looking to improve your swim, we’d love to have you come down to The Race Club in the Keys. It’s actually nicer here in summer than it is further north with the breezes and the ocean. Great open water swimming, two Olympic pools and plenty of places to run. Biking is a bit more challenge and no hills (except for a few bridges). But I promise to make you swim faster!
It’s a bit out in the boonies so I’m not sure if it would be what you are looking for since you are going solo, but the Northeast Kingdom in VT is pretty sweet and has everything you are looking for…great SBR, mtn biking, hiking, etc etc. We rent a cabin on Lake Willoughby each year. Heading up 4th of July this year, can’t wait!
