@noskcaj46, appreciate the perspective of someone who’s gone through this. CROS is on my options list for the next ENT visit. He listed a few other acronyms but I don’t remember them off the top of my head.
Honestly, while the deafness sucks, it’s the disequilibrium that affects me the most. If the therapy reduces or gets rid of that, I’d be happy camper again.
No change. Fought against a migraine today. Thankfully it’s Friday so I could step away from work early relax away from light and noise and that helped.
Hanging in there. Had good weekend, no headaches. Had a Head and neck CT angio scan today, my primary care is trying solve the headache riddle. I still think it’s related to the ear, my brain just working itself too hard, too much stress.
Curious to hear what the treatment options are. And of course you’re getting 2nd/ 3rd opinions? I wouldn’t jump into any surgery without be triple sure! Especially something like Cochlear Implants. If it comes to hearing aides, let me know. I have been wearing them my whole life and have tried a bunch of different brands and levels. They are not all created equal, especially if you still have an active lifestyle.
Hopefully whatever the options they present can solve the dizziness/ headaches. That sucks.
mck414 Somehow I missed this thread. I have a similar issue. In early Dec, I had an ear infection in my right ear. That is not uncommon since I broke my nose and eardrum 55 years ago and have had sinus and ear infections periodically since. We were impoverished so I never got medical treatment when it happened. I have a deviated septum and have not been able to breath out of the right side of my nose since. Hence, my propensity for sinus infections. I could not hear at all out of the right ear for 6 months after the incident and then the hearing returned. I have never been able to hear high pitched sounds.
My ear had a lot of discharge in Dec. I treated it with OTC drops like I have done for my entire life. The infection cleared but my hearing has not returned much.
Unlike smart people like you, for some reason I strongly resist going to a doctor. Any doctor. So I have not seen one. Reading about your shots and treatments and side effects hardens my resistance to seeing one. My hearing is still impaired. It is getting better. For short periods it seems to be totally fine. But to me, this is a pattern that has repeated itself over the years. I find it annoying but not debilitating.
Keep us updated. I recognized your struggles and symptoms. Hopefully they will clear.
Oh man, you have it rough! I thought mine was an infection at first but there has never been any sign.
I had head and neck CT angio scan yesterday, just reviewed the results this morning and everything looks normal. So the accompanying headaches and cause of hearing loss are still a mystery.
Next step the hearing PT. If they can help get rid of the dizziness I’ll be happy.
Same today. Was heading down the headache path but was able to cut it off early. Almost ready to call it day and go lay down and read for the afternoon.
Lay down and read is code for mostly likely taking a nap.
Good news. This week my hearing has improved dramatically. Probably 80% back to normal. My ear has minimal pain lately and I am hearing so much better.
For me, likely the infection has run it’s course. But as I said, the genesis of this was an untreated childhood trauma and the hearing loss has occurred about once a decade since.
I hope you find the cause and that it is treatable or that like me, time heals it.
First round of PT is in the books. Additional testing with the PT determined my eyes are overworking trying to accommodate the loss of left side inner ear balance. In short, when I move my head and keep my eyes fixed on an object, my eyes are still moving. When I move my head and eyes together, when I stop moving my head my eyes keep moving.
As always with PT, I’ve got a couple exercises for home. They ramp up the vertigo pretty good, might led to a mid grade headache this afternoon.
