Chair of the Galveston, TX Republican Party, Yolanda Waters, was complaining about a colleague. She said of State Republican Executive Committee Member J.T. Edwards, who is Black, when asked why he doesn’t work, that he’s a “typical nig.â€
Now she claims it was a typo, but she can’t recall what she had meant to type.
B is right next to N on the keyboard. I have almost written various versions of that innumerable times although context would have made it apparent it was a typo. This; not so much.
“I am saddened and hurt that anyone believes I am ‘racist’ against my own people,” said Waters, who identifies as “Latina/African-American.”
In the text exchange, a copy of which has been reviewed by the Tribune, Waters vented about Edwards asking for money to attend a meeting in Austin, suggesting he “lives off everyone else” and “really abuses.” When the other person asked, “Why doesn’t he work?”, Waters replied, “Typical Nig.” The Daily News reported that the text exchange occurred in March, and the other person was Alicia Youngblood, secretary for the Galveston County GOP.
I’ve lived in TX for over 30 years now. There are still some very racist areas within this state.
Hell, I’m a white guy and when working on a project in south TX, I had to drive by what looked like a KKK militia training camp. I made sure to pass quickly.

So will Alicia win the Game of Thrones?
Wait if she’s African American isn’t okay?
*She is not African American enough… only half and more importantly pigmentally challenged in her phenotype. If she were not so… and more importantly not Republican her vulgarity would perhaps only be tut-tutted. The hierarchy of intersectionality is complex but as a rule of thumb political party tends to trump most other things. *

Exactly. That’s why Dems called on Al Franken to resign and he did. Oh wait…
James Dickey, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, confirmed in a statement that the party has requested Waters resign as county party chairwoman.
“The Republican Party of Texas does not tolerate racist remarks and actions,†Dickey said in a statement. “Texas is a diverse state and Texans deserve leaders who stand strong for our Republican values — including respecting Texans of all backgrounds, ethnicities and creeds. We have asked Ms. Waters to resign and look forward to the new positive leadership Galveston County deserves.â€

Exactly. That’s why Dems called on Al Franken to resign and he did. Oh wait… Actually he was at the bottom of the totem pole of intersectionality. Middle age white male. His democratic status was not enough to get him out of it at the time… very focused and front and center on #metoo.( It was building to a crescendo in and around that time. ) I was surprised he folded so quickly maybe other personal reasons and he had had enough. ( As I vaguely recall reading articles back then over and above his transgression at the time he wasn’t personally very nice or well liked by anyone ) but once something picks up momentum whether idealogic fervor or political calculation you are correct in stating that half of the Democratic Senators asked him to step down. I don’t know either of these politicians… My comment is a little tongue and cheek but a platform for a broader observation/point to ponder. She may be a reprobate he may be a neer do well. I have know idea. I would think ( and hope ) most of the time people are recognized for who they are and ferreted out locally. P.S. congrats on Survivor. : )
