Successful Treatment of Huntington's Disease

A study was done and the paper is in the works for review to show they have successfully treated Huntington’s Disease for the first time. It’s not a simple procedure, it involves surgery on the brain and gene therapy, but these are great steps. Maybe some of my younger family members won’t suffer the way my mom, sister, and 2 brothers have/are.

My mom was one of the original 7 patients to undergo a stem cell transplant to see if it would be a viable option to help stop the cells from dying. It obviously didn’t work, but it has led to other options and now at least there appears to be a path forward.

I can’t tell you how much this will mean to those who have or have family members with this fucking terrible disease. It’s too late for my immediate family, but hopefully this can translate into an easier and more cost efficient treatment, or even a cure.

wow

i just learned an old friend has been diagnosed. I’m sorry for your family – and hope this is a clear way forward.

This is certainly a massive step forward and a good share. Thank you for posting, and I’m sorry your family had to suffer the disease; it is brutal.

Sounds very promising!
