Stupid question: Hat v. Visor

Ok, this is a dumb question but I am asking anyway… 'cause I’m bored at work.

When it’s hot out, is it better to race in a hat to keep the sun off your head or in a visor to let the heat out? I just remember being a kid and adults saying (in the winter) to be sure you wear a hat b/c 75% of your body heat escapes through your head.

So, let’s say I’m running for 2 hours in the sun on a 90 degree day… which would be better?

I prefer the visor.

Visor as well. I overheat like crazy and the only reason I wear a hat is because I sweat so much that I can not keep it out of my eyes. On that note, I am going to race this year again and can not find a new visor. Who makes a good visor?

Hat
.

I always wear a hat. I now wear one with the fabric that hangs down from the back. Whats great is I get it wet at water stations and the cool material is hanging over my neck.

I’m bored too.

Why did I see a couple of guys wearing a visor in 58 degrees with cloud cover and occasional mist on the run at Mooseman?

I’m not a visor guy as I shave my head, but I would check out Headsweats. I like their hats.

Up until this year I wore hats, but this year I made the change to a visor because i feel like’s it cooler. I also like it better than a hat because I dump water on my head at aid stations and the water makes contact with my head directly.

visor for sure. I like that I can pour water on my head wihtout taking it off and not have it drip down in my face. plus it feels cooler when running on the top of my head.
I like the Headsweats ones.

I prefer visors but at Eagleman wore a visor and got a burn on the top of my head. Now my scalp is peeling and itchy. Not good!

Visor baby. You look hotter but stay cooler. Deadly combo

hat so you can put ice in it - much cooler.

Yeah, in a race, it’s nice to have that option, or to just tuck a sponge under there for awhile.

I’ve got dark hair, so a white cap keeps me cooler. Make sure it’s a thin, meshy fabric.

Since i have dark colored hair, I wear a white colored hat because i white colored surfaces absorb less heat.

Paul…

My favorite is the Headsweats Visor but for some odd reason…the one made with the CAF logo on it is the most comfortable to me. So i have been sticking to that for a while now!

In the sun; hat, during cloudy days or running in the shade; visor. I’m balding, and burning the scalp hurts BAD…

Depends on how foilically challenged ytou are. I am unfortuantely a hat man.

You tell me how “foilically challenged” I am. Spencer had to help cover the back in this pic…

Since my hair is receeding (just a little!) I always use a hat: I don’t want to sunburn my scalp. Even people with tons of hair and women need to watch out: Ever sunburned the part in your hair?

It’s more of problem running in the middle of the day in spring and summer of course. At 7 a.m. or 5 p.m. or on January its not an issue.
