Ok, this is a dumb question but I am asking anyway… 'cause I’m bored at work.
When it’s hot out, is it better to race in a hat to keep the sun off your head or in a visor to let the heat out? I just remember being a kid and adults saying (in the winter) to be sure you wear a hat b/c 75% of your body heat escapes through your head.
So, let’s say I’m running for 2 hours in the sun on a 90 degree day… which would be better?
Visor as well. I overheat like crazy and the only reason I wear a hat is because I sweat so much that I can not keep it out of my eyes. On that note, I am going to race this year again and can not find a new visor. Who makes a good visor?
I always wear a hat. I now wear one with the fabric that hangs down from the back. Whats great is I get it wet at water stations and the cool material is hanging over my neck.
Up until this year I wore hats, but this year I made the change to a visor because i feel like’s it cooler. I also like it better than a hat because I dump water on my head at aid stations and the water makes contact with my head directly.
visor for sure. I like that I can pour water on my head wihtout taking it off and not have it drip down in my face. plus it feels cooler when running on the top of my head.
I like the Headsweats ones. http://www.headsweats.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=101
My favorite is the Headsweats Visor but for some odd reason…the one made with the CAF logo on it is the most comfortable to me. So i have been sticking to that for a while now!
Since my hair is receeding (just a little!) I always use a hat: I don’t want to sunburn my scalp. Even people with tons of hair and women need to watch out: Ever sunburned the part in your hair?
It’s more of problem running in the middle of the day in spring and summer of course. At 7 a.m. or 5 p.m. or on January its not an issue.
