Stryd pod paces seem off

Not sure if anyone has experienced this same issue but wanted to put it out there. It could also just be my cardio brain hallucinating.

I use the latest version of the stryd pod (wind detection) with a Garmin 935. I have the watch configured to use the Stryd for speed and distance. Stryd calibration factor automatically set to 100, have not messed with that. On the Garmin data screen I have one of my fields set to current pace/mile. However, when I’m doing faster runs the mile splits and average pace I get don’t seem to match up with the current pace I see during the session

Example: today I did a 10k run off the bike. Flat route, some wind. Felt like my effort was even throughout. I’d estimate I was looking at my watch maybe once every 1-2 minutes. During the session, the current pace shown was consistently 5:40-5:50. I never really saw slower than that. However, the mile splits that were coming up went more like 6:03, 6:05, 6:10, etc. Average pace once I saved the run was 6:11/mile? Any idea what’s going on?

I also had a similar situation a few months ago when I was running on a dirt track. I was doing 3k all out and the current pace was showing around 5:20 from start to finish, but the lap splits were about 4:50

just making sure i understand the problem correctly:
you are describing the distances in metric values (10k; 3k) but the pace in miles/min.
have you set some of your data fields in metric and others in imperial? (not even sure if that can be done…)

Sorry for the confusion. I did the runs as part of the Ironman VR series where 3k and 10k were the designated lengths. I always use imperial settings so the distance field was still in miles and I stopped when I hit 1.86 and 6.22

Thanks for your question Dominic.

There are numerous things that could potentially be going on here:

  1. There is an internal error in your watch that is causing the watch to only take pace from Stryd but not distance. This is rare but it can happen.

  2. You have improperly configured the foot pod connection on your watch. Pace is coming from Stryd but distance is coming from another source (likely GPS).

  3. You have connected Stryd as a BLE foot pod instead of an ANT+ foot pod. We have seen that Garmin does not properly handle the BLE foot pod connection.

  4. Pace is correct and average pace is correct. The values could be correct but you may think something is wrong since you are only looking every so often and have incomplete information.

There are surely more potential issues but this is all I have identified so far based on the information you have shared.

I invite you to email us at support@stryd.com, send a link to this thread, a link to your activity file(s) that exhibit this behavior, and any other relevant details. We can better help there!

Appreciate the reply! Sounds as if #2 is the most likely. I’ll send an email to support with all the info

i’ve had two athletes recently with similar issue. both were properly setup with ant+, stryd as a speed source and working fine for quite a while before presenting what seemed to be divergence between rpe / heart rate and speed / power. they hard reset and values seem more in range.
