Im in a mood to blab, so here-
Recomended sleep for an athlete depends on stress load of life. There are two types of stress. Eustress and Distress. Distress is the bad type caused from things such as unpredicted circumstances like car failure, sickness, and etc. It is also based on perception. For example, A wedding is Distressful for a man but Eu-stressful for a woman.(at least most of the time, haha) And Eustress includes things like working out, eating, and socializing and can create a positive reaction for the individual. All of which cause stress on the body, however, the body’s response is dependent on the individuals perception of the circumstance and is largely a result of the individuals personality type. Most athletes need a little more sleep than the average individual due to the added stress of planning, preparing, carrying out, and recovering from their workout. (As stated before, based upon perception, all of these activities are either distressful-harmful, or eustressful-positive, for the athlete)
At least 7, but up to 11 hours of sleep are recommended for an athlete. A nap in the middle of the day will give the athlete a double dosage of the hormone released, which is known as HGH, which stimulates rapid growth, repair, and reproduction of all cells but especially those damaged during exorcise.
Of course not all of us are blessed with sponsors or jobs in which we can sleep for 11 hours. However, that’s what makes us triathletes, the iron will to adapt to the stress in accordance to the hand we are given. And not only to adapt but to exceed what most think to be humanly possible.
I believe one of the best things we can do as athletes is change the way we view the things we do in our everyday life’s. Lets looks at them as gifts rather than tasks and burdens. “I GET to grab a breath of fresh air as i take the trash out” “I am BLESSED with the ability to train on a daily basis rather than being tied down to the couch” “I enjoy the freedom from the TV that most will never know the joy of”
BRAVO for your thoughts on how we perceive various things in our lives.
all cells but especially those damaged during exorcise.
Having seen The Exorcist, I can only imagine the cellular damage that also occurs.
In terms of sleep needs, stress is stress. Making distinctions between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ stress is along the same lines of separating endurance, tempo and threshold, just much less useful.

You plagiarized yourself to boot!
Stress gets a bad rap but recent longevity studies clearly show that early retirees have shorter life spans. The longer you have your nose to the grindstone the healthier you are in the long run. This is depressing but true.
I think it’s just important for the mind and body to have something to do… it’s like I remember reading something about people who habitually keep a garden in their old age lived coinsiderably longer than those who ‘retire’ to their couches and armchairs.

What this should say is that retirees that live a life of sloth have a diminished lifespan. When I retire I’ve got a huge list of things I want to do. I know easier said than done, but when I’m not burdened with this thing called a job I’ll have so much more time to do the stuff I really like. 65-70 AG Nats, here I come! In my newly restored Alfa GTV.
haha, i don’t think It can be considered plagiarism if your quoting yourself my friend, but thanks for the response. It is what it is, some find it helpful, others don’t. Maybe your not a detail person. I am and i love these bits of info.
have a good training day.
You nailed it! I hate details. More of a dreamer.
People like you are great for offsetting, balancing, and collaborating with people like me. People like me tend to do more work, where as people like you usually get paid more money, haha.
Dream on!
