Just purchased the Strassburg Sock, as I’ve had a nasty case of Plantar Fasciitis for way too long. It was a $40 hit. Before I open it up and use it, was it a wise investment?

I prefer the more traditional posterior night splints as the sock tends to cause a lot of toe cramps and numbness since it cranks on the toes after cinched up. Also, you can use the more traditional splints for other pathologies (i.e. achilles tendon issues, soleus/gastric muscle strains, etc.). But, it is the cheapest posterior night splint alternative.

I think it’s one of those things that’s definitely worth trying for persistent PF. If it works, great! If not, there are a heap of other things to try. OTOH, the sock might be the only one of those things you could have a hard time selling on eBay, for instance.
I have one (and used it to treat pf the one time I had it). It is nice to wear but don’t crank it too tight. I usually find that I take it off somewhere during the night. Another thing that I got was a ProStretch which works well.

Finally I always have a plain old rolling pin in my desk drawer at work. Nothing felt better on my PF was to gently roll my foot on it all day long.
I used one for a while and it worked very well. After a while I bought a traditional hard boot. The sock put my toes to sleep after a while. I still use it because it’s easy to pack for trips if I may need it.

I got a splint like rroof recommended and I’m very pleased with it. It’s a little bulky, but it does the job and I’ve gotten use to it by now.

I had a mild to moderate case that went away with a few months of wearing the sock every night to bed. I wore it for close to a year total, just to make sure it stayed away. We sent one to my mother in law and it helped her as well.

I’m coming off a really bad case of Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and retrocalcaneal bursitis myself. I’m with Rick on this one - I have been using a standard posterior night splint and have found that it’s easy to adjust, doesn’t do unpleasant things to my toes, and helps me get out of bed feeling pretty good in the AM. Other things that have worked for me:
Ultrasound with anti-inflammatory meds - especially over the retrocalcaneal bursa.
Extensive stretching of gastroc & soleus and achilles.
Extensive massage of insertion of the Achilles tendon on the calcaneus (heel bone).
Icing frequently - especially after any stress, such as biking or running (yes, that means I am back to running, which suggests that this is improving).
Orthotics - currently using Lynco orthotics.
Stretching hamstrings as well to improve overall alignment.
Did a short course of oral anti-inflammatories as well. Have resumed running - slowly increasing mileage - and making progress.
