i train on average about 15hrs a week and rarely take my watch off. I noticed the other day that i have a pretty red rash under my watch (Timex IM watch) and the skin is really dry/cracking. anyone else had this? i’ve been told it is a fungal infection–kind of like athlete’s foot for the wrist. if anyone has had this, what cream/lotion worked best for you?
yes.
may sound overly obvious, but stop wearing your watch!!
seriously, though- just wear it on the other wrist- also, stay away from the cloth-type bands, try getting a watch band ( a la nike running watches) with a lot of holes/perforations… your skin will dry and heal. maybe try some medicated talc to help speed this up.
also, leave it off when you are not working out-
I get this all the time. I am pretty sure it is an allergic reaction to the plastic watchband. Also you skin can’t really breath under a plastic band. I just take mine off alot.
I had the exact same thing when I was like 11 and wore my first nice waterproof digital watch constantly for many months. It was pretty gross. -TB
I used to have that happen. Now I just take the watch off after every workout and rinse it out in the sink, or let it soak for a few minutes.
Me too. I started taking off my watch when I ent to bed and that helped out a lot. I think its just your skins way of saying “let me breath a bit”
No big deal. Like all of us have said, just take it off for a while.
Get a Tag Heuer…no issues.
Wear your watch looser, that took care of it for me.
If it has a metal back, you probably have a nickel allergy. (stainlesss steel has nickel in it.) If it is plastic, it is more likely soap or some irritant on the backing. A fungus is a possibility, but less common.
I agree with docfuel I’ve seen this many times and turnes out to be an allergy to nickle or other irritant.
Don’t just treat the wound, address the problem. Imagine for a moment the issues that would develop if you used the same technique with everything else you wear. Now that you are shaking your head…use the reasoning behind why you don’t do that with everything else (I hope) and apply that to the watch routine.
I have to wash my hands 40-50 times a day (or more). I now wear a belt loop watch (~$20) from radio shack.
Stop WATCHing porn! then the rash will go away (and your vision will come back too)
