Stop running, sell the bike, grab the dumbell

…and lose weight.

Who is this guy?

Just caught the end of the 20/20 TV show and some “guru” now has the “No Cardio Diet” or something like that, claiming that cardio work is a total waste of time to lose weight. All you need is three 20 min. elastic band workouts per week and you’ll drop mega lbs.

Didn’t catch his name. His book is now on the New York Times best seller list.

Guess everybody is looking for an easy solution.

Anybody else see this blurb or know anything about this character?

I’ve seen the same sort of thing on the web. Goes something like “if you want six pack abs, stop doing cardio and stop doing crunches, and just do a lot of multi muscle exercises to rev up your metabolism.” I don’t know about you, but I lost weight and fat through that dreaded More is More method.

Oh yeah. I think that dude’s name is Jack Culo.

Well, he’s probably right if you are talking about weight loss. It’s MOSTLY a factor of diet.

I know masses of body builders who actually have that Men’s Health cover shot and they don’t do any cardio - it’s all super strict diet and lifting (and steriods).

You can either eat really well OR do cardio - but most people can’t do either.

Did you listen closely. The lady who lost 100 lbs in a year by doing strenght training 20 min three a week with rubber bands. Oh I almost forgot he also put her on diet of 1000 calloies per day less than her norm! Let’s see…at 3500cal per pound that’s a weight loss of 1 lb every 3.5 days and over 365 days…well do the math thats your 100 lbs. I can’t believe this guy could con more people into thinking there is an easy wasy to good health. What a slim ball.

I didn’t catch that part but it seems all he is saying is eat less. Not bad advice for loosing weight.

Sorry about your mom. It’s my mom’s 82nd tomorrow.

That’s part of it…but no cardio?

I saw it. It’s really nothing new. The Body for Life diet is much the same and it’s been around for years. They glossed over the diet being restricted to 1200 calories per day. No doubt that person would have lost mega pounds without doing any form of exercise. The guys problem with cardio is he said it increases the feeling of hunger making it more difficult to stay on the reduced diet and the weight training only method apparently does not do that. He feels an increase in muscle mass increases metobolism much more than doing cardio workouts. There is probably some merit to his method, but as with all diets, it’s not likely to work for all people. Many people will likely drop out after the first week of reduced caloric intake. Almost any diet/exercise program will be effective if people would stick to it.

that was so freakin stupid. dump the cardio, pull bungy cords and oh, by the way, you can only eat 1200 cals. per day.
