Intelligence indicates the container containing these bikes arrived at port today and will clear customs within 7 days. That puts them at Felt in about 10 days. that puts them in retailers in about 24 days. That’s huge.
This is the huge value Dura-Ace all-carbon Felt road bike.
The question is: How long before Felt’s new value priced all-carbon tri bike?
I have a question regarding Carbon Bikes. How is that so many manufacturers are making carbon fiber bikes. It’s my understanding that companies like TREK and Cervelo have spent many hours and dollars developing their carbon bikes. Each company supposedly has an expert understanding of Carbon Fiber.
How is it that a company like FELT can ‘all of a sudden’ come out with a full carbon bike? Did Jim hire a Carbon Fiber expert to design his bike? Or does Jim find a company that works with carbon say I want tubes to look like this and be put together this way? How much testing is done on a bike like this?
I just picked FELT as an example - I have one and throughly like it.
Now, let me tell you guys this: I am constrained by propriety and by dealer agreement as to what I can say about price but, suffice it to say the MSRP of $2519.99 is *well ***above **what it will be sold for in the real world…
I’ll put it this way: If you could get a high end, well speced Dura-Ace 10 equipped road bike complete with good saddle, stem and bars and very, very nice finish (photo doesn’t do it justice) for about, oh, for argument’s sake let’s say $2099 or so, hypothetically speaking of course, would that be attractive?
If such a bike existed, I wager there would be three customers for every one bike…
Carbon bikes are a dime a dozen, especially with the Asian glut of them. Nothing wrong with that, as the Asians know how to make them. But there will continue to be more and more of them.
This bike will be distant memory by June 1. The '06’s are spec’ed, put to bed and probably being built. The '05’s are here and almost entirely sold out. Shimano 105 10 speed is already a reality.
You are seeing the end result of years of work. This isn’t all the sudden, and actually this shows why the “reaction” of Carbon Fiber taking hold of consumer perception as a good thing can take over a year to materialize. If a company saw that carbon was going to be the big hit it was last year, Felt would have waved the magic wand and had a carbon bike last year. These things take time, and you don’t get to see the clock.
I guess this is the hard work that the consumer never sees. I wasn’t picking on FELT, just using it as an example. I have a Felt and really like the bike. Have personally met Jim and I personally think Jim makes/designs great bikes.
Just wondering why it seems 'everyone’ all of sudden has gone Fiber so fast.
Out of curiosity, did Jim hire a Carbon Fiber expert or become and expert himself?
Sorry for the late response, I think I covered some of this in the previous post about “trusting” carbon fiber frames. I’d really suggest you call Felt toll free at 1-866-4-felt-us and ask to speak to Jeff SO-Chek. I don’t have his resume memorized, but it is very very impressive in terms of his background as well as his current projects. He’ll downplay his role in these projects, but he’s a wealth of experience I personally think Felt should publicize more.
