Stolen in the Detroit Area: Guru Tri-lite and Zipp 404 Rear Wheel

Hello all,

This morning as we were getting ready to leave for our last long run before Steelhead, we found out that my boyfriend’s garage had been broken into and along with some powertools the thieves had stolen his Guru Tri-lite, from the back of his car. His rear Zipp 404 was on the bike when it was stolen.

The bike is white with red flames and black accents. A cateye bike computer had been installed (black wiring with some white tape over some of the wires. There are also some identifying marks on the handlebars as a result of a recent incident. (Mostly, damage to the left side of the handlebar.) We can provide the frame’s serial number to confirm id. And I can post a picture of it once I’m back at my own computer.

The 404’s “Zipp” stickers have been removed, and at the time it was taken there was a wheelbuilder.com wheel cover on the wheel.

Here’s a link to a picture of Dave on his bike at TTT http://www.multisportphoto.com/TTT/TTT/ttt075.html

(Since we were a team and I’m slower, I had his race wheels on my bike at the time the picture was taken.)

Please help us out. If you see anything matching this description for sale on places like eBay, let me know.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to get the bike back or another bike set up for David before bike check-in on Friday.

Thanks.
Cheryl for David

best of luck finding it. it’s always a long shot.

if you have photos, you should get them to any local bike shops. keep an eye on craig’s list, too.

Here is a pic I had from Triple-T 2006 -

I still have my Felt S22 frame and fork + cockpit. If we can get a groupo put together and scavenge a rear tubular wheel / disc we could easy set Dave up on that. Shush don’t tell Dave and we can surprise him!

Slowman,

Thank you so much for pinning this to the top of the forum.

Gavin,
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Keep being hopeful… a teammate of mine got his bike back 9 months after it was stolen after the thief strolled into the bike store asking for a more plush seat for the bike (incidentally, also a guru, complete with zipp 909s). Bike store owner recognised it immediately and called the cops silently while holding the thief in the store.

What size is that?

I have a QR TiPhoon in ~57cm with BR 100’s that I’d be happy to lend out (I’m in Detroit) since I won’t be using it any time soon.

Good luck finding the bike. (BTW if you want to borrow my bike you are welcome to it, jut be aware that i I’m leaving on Wed to go out of town and will not return until Sunday)

Thanks for the offer. Dave is about 5’8" and I think his normal frame size is a 50 or 51, so the 57 is probably a little big.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled.

yeah, 5’8" is pretty small (the Tiphoon fits more like a 55cm) for my bike to work, but if you run out of options let me knwo some measurements and I’ll see if it could work.

If you find a bike, you would be welcome to the wheels.
