Stinky Feet

Ok I confess to stinky feet.

Never in my life have I had stinky feet until I got some new carbon fiber orthotics. Now they smell like Ass.

Any ideas why the sudden change, nothing other than the introduct of the new otrthotics has changed. I have had plastic based orthotics before.

What can I do about this.

Things that might work.

Soak in Vinegar a few times and wash the shoes in dilute bleach (very dilute)

Wash your feet with PhisoHEX twice a day. $ Rx

Use Clindamycin acne solution on your feet twice a day.$$$$ Rx

Stop sniffing ass and they have this thing called soap! Maybe a little antibacterial soap! If that doesnt work, cut them off!

I nearly tried the cutting them off part with two surgeries in the last 10 months on my right ankle.

What I don’t understand is the sudden change. I am 34 I have never and I really mean never had foot odor. I was a swimmer all my life, never got athletes foot and other sort of foot fungus. Now all of a sudden I have the stank, and it is bad. I went from 0 to 100 in a matter of weeks

Not sure why the smell all of a sudden. Make sure to cut toe-nails, clean socks, wash feet. I also use this shoe deodorant powder: http://www.drscholls.com/product.aspx?prodid=39. It works pretty well. I use it in my running/cycling shoes every few days.

go back to your old orthodics for a week or so and see if that clears it up?

I thought about that but with all of my surgeries my old orthotics no longer git my feet. What really sucks Is I paid extra for the carbon fiber ones. They are much stiffer than the plastic.

It can be fungal or an anaerobic bacteria. The latter can really stink. It could be happenstance. My wife and I got it from the tub/shower in a motel when we went to visit our twins. It was so bad, that they even stunk up our Tevas. Washing twic daily with Phisohex cleared it up. We also washed the sandals, etc in a very dilute bleach solution since they were stinky and likely colonized with the stuff.

Is Phisohex over the counter?? My feet sweat waaaay too much and lately they stink beyond any control! My shoes smell so bad I can smell them from the closet with the door closed!

BAd news!!! I think it is no longer available, as of this last summer. You could try chlorhexidine. Topical clindamycin acne cream (or gel) might work. Soaking in Vinegar several times a day is supposed to work, too.

dude your killing me!!! ok is Chlorhexidine over the counter? lol… I have checked on CVS.com but they dont tell you… Gotta solve this problem quickly as I dont control how much I sweat!!

P.M. rroof and he’ll steer you in the right direction.

I’m pretty sure that Chlorhexidine is OTC. (Hibiclens.)
Clindamycin topical is prescription.
Vinegar is OTC

Nothing until the new orthotics?

Try this: get a black light, shine on your feet in a dark room. Any glowing orange stuff between the toes like you stepped in a pile of Doritos? Any burning/itching as well? Occasionally, a corynebactrium minutissimum infection (common cause of erythrasma) can cause a pungent odor. So can forms of tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) - but most people know when they have this.

1/4 strength bleach solution kills most all critters and smells a bit better than acetic acid solutions (i.e. vinegar). If you feet perspire a lot, you can simply spray your foot with an antiperspirant (i.e. Arid) just like you would an under arm deodorant. There are 250,000 sweat glands on the feet :frowning:

rroof- The issue is long since resolved- the post you replied to was 4 years old, but thanks for the thought!!!

No worries…for every post, there are 20 who are wondering or those around them looking/smelling for help.

Thanks again, rroof.

But for those of us just joining the party, we’re dying to know what solved it…?

Strength Bleach solution??? Is that not harmful for the skin?? Ill try deodorant on my feet in the meantime!

No, 1/4 strength bleach (i.e. Dakin’s solution) has been used for years to treat minor skin infections/issues.
