Sticking Shot Blocks (or other nutrition) on Bike Frame

Anyone have any experience or recommendations or tricks for sticking/attaching nutrition to your bike frame? Have heard of folks sticking cliff’s shot blocks to bars/etc…

I’ve cut up Powerbars lengthwise and placed them over the top tube. Try it on a training ride and see how it works for you before trying it out on a race.

Good stuff. Especially on a real hot day. Nice and salty … Mmmmmm …

Kinda like this:

For shot blocs in particular, I had really good luck using some electrical tape and saran wrap – with the opening to the side so I could just sort of pop the bloc out the side to eat it, and no waste to deal with during the race.

I have done the Shot Blocks on the frame. On hot dry and windy courses they take on a gritty texture which is not really a plus. Not a big deal if you ate dirt as a kid.

Electrical tape on the top tube right behind the stem. You can even get creative with the colors.

Attach it such that the tape sticks to the packaging. Then it all gets wadded up and stuffed in a pocket or tossed at an aide station.

Am I missing something? What’s wrong with your pocket? The idea of sticking something to the frame, letting your tires throw dirt/debris onto it, then eating it just doesn’t sound appealing… especially when I have pockets.

Besides, you’re screwing with the aerodynamics!

Exactly … god forbid someone should actually have to reach back and pull something out of their pocket. And with the way most tri suits are designed now, you have little pockets all over the place.

Sticking something onto your frame is sacrilage and the cycling gods will smite you with flat tires and busted spokes if you do it too much.

I stuck a Shot Blok on my aero-bottle once. Couldn’t find it when I wanted it. Figured a bird stole it in transtion area.

Funny Story:
I stuck some PowerBar chunks to my top tube during my first IM for variety…but since I’ve never really liked PowerBars they
were still there at the end of the bike.

When the race was over, my wife and son went to pick up my gear while I got a massage…my 9 year old looked at the
bike and said “Eeeww - Daddy threw up on the bike!”

But know yourself out…

Jebus, just get a bento box. I know that is sacrilege but who cares?

Who needs pockets? I just stick it up my bike shorts. Easy access, and I have an excuse to caress my amazing ripped quads while I’m grabbing my fuel.

I don’t remember who it was, but someone put clif blocks in the vents of their helmet. One of the funniest things I had heard in a long long time.
