I don’t think it’s necessarily ridiculous to think that, you you went back and pulled every direct descendant of rape or incest, and all their subsequent descendants, we’d be pretty close to an unsustainably low population level.

Any child of his would carry 1/2 of his genes (the other half from the mother); the next generation 1/4, then 1/8 and so on. Over the course of 31 generations that would mean that Genghis Khan’s genetic material would have been diluted by 2**31, i.e. more than 2 billion-fold (actually a little less because some of the couples producing children in some of those 31 generations would have been more or less closely related, but just to illustrate the magnitude). Any person living today who is a descendant of Genghis Khan would thus be related just as closely to millions of other people from the same era.

I won’t pretend to understand “mendelian genetics” but my limited understanding is that the Khan’s (his sons spread it about as well), have a distinctive set of Y chromosome markers that are still very visible today. Same is true of a handful of other powerful men from history including the Qing dynasty. My point was not that Khan’s descendants are closely related to each other, or even to him, but that the ability to procreate has historically often been an expression of literal power.

The argument is that since most actual people who exist today are the product of rape and incest, then we shouldn’t get in the way of future hypothetical people who would also be the result of rape an incest by aborting them before they can become people.
Interestingly, he doesn’t seem to care about the future potential people who won’t be born as the result of already having enough children.
Of course, its not really the future potential people that he really cares about. Its control.
