I managed to strip my aged Vision stem today and have been looking around at different stem options. Trouble is, there aren’t many for a 26.0 handlebar.
The Vision Sizemor has been a good stem but wouldn’t balk (much) at this opportunity to upgrade. Any suggestions from the ST community-at-large?
There really isn’t much of an upgrade to a stem (esp for a tribike). Basically it comes down to cost vs. weight (and maybe aesthetics). That is about it. Most of the top shelf stems are close in weight (and cost). Forget carbon stems. Low end stems are also about the same in weight (and cost). A great example is the Deda Element stems: expensive, nice looking, light. The Element “servizio corsa” is another $50 at some retailers and the ONLY difference is red (vs. blue graphics) and titanium bolts. You can the very same Ti bolts for less than half and have the same stem (and 15g or whatever savings). Silly, really.
Having said all that, I have an extra Vision Sizemore 1 1/4, 26.0 by 110mm if that is the length you need for cheap that I’ve been meaning to ebay or put in the classifieds (been too lazy for $20 or so).
edit: If you want the stem, PayPal the funds to ST charity of choice (gazelle (Tara) or the Fires in Aus) and I’ll send it to ya’ I’ve already donated as well.
I went with the Ritchey WCS… reasonably light and inexpensive (at least compared to the carbon types out there), and available in a wide range of sizes both 26.0 and OS.
