Hey Guys. Just an FYI. We changed the Steelhead bike course a bit to get rid of some of the crappy roads on Blue Star. Taking a slightly different route back. It will make the course faster since it is basically a flat road, but it seems a better choice. The first 6-7 miles we ride on have some wide grooves and constant bumps. New road is far superior. I have the new route on my site. www.michiganoutlaws.com
Also, got an email from Tom Z. Apparently we are already over our total participation from last year. He thinks we will be up in the 600-700 range!
Ken - I hear your warming up Lake Michigan with those 90 degree temperatures in Michigan. Called my parents that other day and it was warmer in St. Joe, Mich. then it was in Howey in the Hills, Florida! Just do not warm the water up to over 78 degrees as we still want to wear wetsuits on race day!
We will close the race at 1,000 this year - I do not think we will reach that number, but if we get close, I’ll post before we reach 900 so that everyone will have a chance to sign up.
Thanks for your help with the bike course. Be sure to let us know about any of those pesky dogs on the new part of the course. Z
I think every damn house on the new road has a damn grumpy dog! think it will be good though. It will motivate people to move their asses or get them bitten off.
It has be ridiculous hot here… Water is still frigid though. No worries aobut the 78 degrees!
Can you tell me if there are any gas stations / convenience stores along the Steelhead bike course. I’m planning a group ride for some of us in Chicago. Thanks.
The c-store at the left hand turn about mile 30 is a great little store! Lots of ice cold gatorade - did not see any Gatorade Endurence the last time I stopped in.
You can also pick up some fried chicken, beef jerkey, cold beer, cigs and lotto tickets! Most of the store patrons seem to go for these items. Z
