I guess it really makes you appreciate how charming/personable guys like Jesse Thomas, Matt Leito, Jordan, Heather Jackson, MBK, Brandon Marsh are… well just about anyone other than the Actual Real Starky.
But goddamn can the man ride a bike after swimming way faster than I could ever dream of.

Well that’s the thing. It doesn’t seem like Starky really WANTS to talk. Someone just shoved a mic in his face.
He could be the sweetest guy in the world. Macca was great to my wife and me when we met him at Wildflower a few years ago. I didn’t get the sense the Stark-Man was playing any games. Just seems bitter being the butt of a joke instead of flipping it and making it work for him.

He’s still faster then 99.9% of the people on ST. Say what you want about his PR skills, he will shut pretty much everyone up in a race. Whether he goes 7:55 or 8:55, he’s faster then pretty much all of us on our absolute best day.
I like that guy. He speaks his mind, he’s not doing anything overly offensive just saying what he feels. If I were his sponsors I would be pretty pleased. Think about it, not only is he winning races, but he keeps people looking at him and talking about him. Keep it coming! Most of the interviews are too bland in this sport.

After watching that video I know now how Starky can win at Kona, and why his run is a (relatively speaking) problem. In the swim he has a cap on. On the bike he has the helmet. As soon as he sets foot out of T2 those enormous air brakes start catching the cross winds, like a great big dutch windmill. That’s why he keeps his arms so low, he is trying to lower his centre of gravity to stablize against the turbulence. Wear a beenie on the run or borrow Faris’ headband and Kona is yours.

I found nothing wrong with that interview. In fact, he’s dead on. More personality. I’m glad Dibens is back. I liked the Rinny and Dibens posts/tweets/videos.
I still think Eganski is the realstarky.
Compared to the usual triathlon personalities - he’s off the wall crazy.
He is part of what the sport needs to be mainstream.
