Thanks for posting. So impressed.
Casual 500s on 5:00. Dammit I suck.

I find it interesting that their pace for casual 500s and all out 100s are only a few seconds apart

A 4:51 is a ~:58 per 100 for the 500s. In contrast, the 5x100s were on a ~:51. That’s roughly 15% “slower”. (Crap, doing the math don’t make me feel any better)
Not sure what workout you were looking at, but the times were a lot different. For the 500’s they were in the 58 to 59 range, and the 100’s fast were 50 to 51+. Perhaps you were not a swimmer, but those two times are light years apart as far as pace. I think a lot of non swimmers could be overwhelmed by how fast both of those paces are, but believe me, they are quite different.
The 100’s pace is pretty close to their actual race pace shaved and tapered…
They’re fast as hell. A guy from my High School team swam there…he was ridiculous. All of his 100 splits in his 500 free were faster than I could manage in a straight up 100.
is this scy or scm?
I too wish I could do a “casual” 500 at 5:00
Cool stuff. Hopefully Swimswam starts posting more of that kind of thing.

There is nothing casual about a 5:00 500m for anyone.

man… that’s a big difference.
Yards. Almost nobody nowhere in the states swims short course meters. It does exist, but its rare.
I think that’s the point for the 99.9% of Slowtwitchers…these times are difficult to imagine.
Thats pretty fast… I have done SCM 400s reps on as quick as 4:30 swimming 4:25ish (was not a pure distance guy). This set converts to 4:12 on 4:20 in SCM.
fast shit
well our team practices in scm, and race in scy. I’m sure a lot of pools are built that way.
Not saying 50s on 100 scy isn’t good, because it is, im just less impressed
Im 2:40 behind, I suck.
the link is bad

i’m now motivated to go do something longer than the usual set of 100’s our master’s coach has us do.

fast shit//
Well to be fair to the guys up there at stanford, your conversion is of the easy, or casual part of the set. THe real meat and hard part were the 100’s on the 2;00. Now that was some fast shit…(-;
