Stainless allen bolts

My disgusting sweat is eating the bolts on my stem and aero bars. I want to replace them with stainless steel but can’t seem to find metric ones anywhere. Is there a place to order these? I have to imagine this is fairly common.

ACE Hardware can usually help out

While being great in their corrosion resistance if you do a bit of research you will find the typical stainless bolt not nearly as strong as the higher grade say 5 or 8, non-corrosion resistant bolts. The last thing you want a failure in the front end while on the aero bars. There may well be stainless bolts suitable for your purpose but you probably won’t find them in your local Ace Hardware or Big Box store.

YMMV,

I just went through the process of finding bolts. Look around for a Grainger or similar specialty hardware store. Like sciguy said, you want a strong alloy bolt, so 12.9 spec. Just buy several and replace.

Look for titanium bolts on e-bay. I had the same issue with the original bolts on my bike. I replaced them with titanium a couple of years ago and haven’t had an issue since. Relatively inexpensive as well…

Here is an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TITANIUM-BOLT-FOR-STEM-M5x18mm-M6x35mm-THOMPSON-FSA-3T-BONTRAGER-RITCHEY-/190792640662

McMaster carr.com Msc.com I buy most of our bolts from McMaster Call And we buy a lot of bolts
.

I have used stuff from bolt depot dot com and been happy with there products. I usually buy stainless from them, so I can’t vouch for what the other posted above have stated. All things being equal, I would assume titanium would be at least as corrosion resistant and lighter as well.

Thanks! none of the hardware sources near me had anything; ace, home depot, lowes, etc.

Jersey Cycles has all sorts of metric bolts in all sorts of colors metals etc…

if you do a search for commercial fasteners in your area that might help find something local.
