ST Weekend Honor Roll

Hey give these STers some props:

  1. Trukweaz won the Epic Triathlon in Portland, Maine by about 6 minutes.

  2. Spindogg took second overall at the Timberman Sprint. The only guy who beat him is a former World Champion (ITU under 23, Jarrod Shumaker)

  3. kus took 3rd in the 35-39 AGat the Timberman 70.3

  4. Murphy’s Law took 3rd in the 40-44 AG at the Timberman 70.3

Who else is on the honor roll?

I was 10th overall at Muncie Endurathon in 2006 - for arriving in the parking lot while it was still dark to setup my transition. Does that count?
I was 120th overall at Ironman Wisconsin 2006 - in the registration line to sign up for this year.

Come on, dammit, this has to count for something…

Someone named Bjorn took 2nd overall at Timberman.

Didn’t one of the Gals of ST do very well at Timberman too?

Triyoda got to watch them close down Mt. Washington :frowning:

Allan Faulds to Second Overall at the Toronto Triathlon turned duathlon

Don’t forget, STers Simon Lessing and Bjorn Andersson when 1-2 overall at Timberman and Muffintop was top 10!

Rumor has it that Desert Dude took 2nd overall at a Du on the east coast somewhere.

I was 19th OA at Timberman in 4:24, 6th Elite male.

I wanted to be top 20 and sub 4:20. Sub 4:20 fell apart with the winds on the bike, but the top 20 held, so Im happy.

Hey Lavery…bang up job. YOu should come up to Ottawa for the Canadian Half Iron where you should be able to go 4:10 or for the Demi Esprit in Montreal where you might pull off a sub 4.

Blake Becker won overall, and Sentania went 2:02:55 in pouring rain at the Plesant Prairie Olympic distance ! Congrats !

Thanks. I wanted to go faster, but it wasnt ideal conditions. The headwind on the way out on the bike never surfaced as a tailwind on the way back, which blew my bike strategy, so I wasnt pleased with my bike split. I dont know if I’m sub 4hr material at the present time, but thanks for the compliment. Im going to clearwater, so assuming I can maintain focus until November, Im expecting a PR.

Oh, sure earlier this year I get my first top ten overall and age group podium and no weekend honor roll! It’s a conspiracy I tell you!

Timberman was lousy w/ ST’ers in the hizzouse:

Top 1, 2, 4, and 7 are all ST’ers (Simon Lessing, Bjorn, Mcaiazzo, and MuffinTop).
Mike Lovato has posted here too on occasion.

Plus Mac Brown (“I’m Mac Brown - eat it!” haha!!!) Lavery, Eganski, Kus, yers truly, and KDW all finished on the first page of the results.
Des Ficker has even posted here once or twice, not sure if that counts…

Young gun Mike Lavery and I had identical bike splits, to the second. So I feel better about it now, as at the time I was pretty disappointed in my bike time, but I guess the gusty blustery winds had something to do with that, for everybody. He followed it up w/ a good run however, I didn’t.
(oh yeah, and he knows how to swim)

I got to meet a few more ST’ers in person, which is always nice.
Including one ST lurker, who somehow knew who I was, I guess that makes me some sort of very minor internet celebrity?

Here’s the M40-44 AG results, and since Mr Grimm got his own private OA Masters award (a very nice crystal thingie) which pulled him outta the AG action, this is how it ended up shaking out:

Really wish I’d kicked it in harder and sooner on the run… :12 lousy freakin’ seconds :-p
oh well, live and learn.

…you arent the only one shaking your head at a 2:27 on that course. I was thinking 2:20-2:22, Damn winds!

<< you arent the only one shaking your head at a 2:27 on that course >>

No doubt.
I went 2:31 there 2 years ago on a road bike w/ clip-ons in a fairly sail-like position.
Fast forward 2 years:
I’m 10 lbs lighter, have a tri bike w/ good position, PowerTap, aero everything, know how to ride, am more fit, lots more base and experience, blah blah blah, and I go a lousy 4 mins faster??? WTF? :-p

Damn winds!!!

local race, but dawhead took 3rd place M40-44 (13th overall) at the Lums Pond (Sprint) Triathlon (0.5mile/19.5miles/5k). my first sprint, way too fast and flat for my taste.

i only wish the results as posted showed how fast i really am. they have me down as running a 5:48 5k … damn that run course must have been way, way short! local hero scoogie synder is fast, but he sure as hell didn’t run at a 4:58 pace either  otoh, my bike computer said 25.1mph for 19.5miles, and thats probably a PR.

awesome

Not tri related:
On Saturday got my first road race win in the 35+123s thanks to team mates of course and another top 5 in a crit on Sunday, so it was a rockin weekend.

Mike, stop worrying about winning the duathlon inside the triathlon…I detect 12 seconds are easily to be gained by reducing that

39:37
split :-). You can win the triathlon too by actually getting that down to 35 minute range…should be possible with your engine and then you can even be competitive in Olympic tris!

I don’t think there was a whole lot of honor being in the middle of the M50-54 pack, but I sure got the jailbait cheerleaders to make a lot of noise four times. At least thats something and after a bunch of looking around I did find where to get the one free Coors Light beer at the end. Tim

You didn’t need to make it bold and huge font, believe me - I get the point.
(although as bummed as I was with that swim split, the run was where I really didn’t get it done like I know I can)

This year has been bizarre, I’ve been swimming more and more as the year has gone on, more than I ever have before (yes, this is still not saying much) and keep getting SLOWER in the water at races:

Harriman was <33 (ok, so we all know that was at least 200m short, so call it 37-ish)
Tupper was <39
Timberman 39.5

Harriman was the easiest swim, RPE-wise (and HR wise too), of them all. Tupper I tried to swim “harder”, and look what that got me. Timberman was mod-hard, and even worse (and in better swim conditions to boot)
What really gets my goat is, at LP last year both my swim splits were 39:xx, and I was totally loafing my way around Mirror Lake that day.

Back to the drawing board. Uh, I mean pool, river, lake, etc.

mike, you should know better than to compare swim times between races. there’s no way to have any idea how the actual course lengths compared, and you know as well as i do that the harriman swim was way short.

it’s too bad i’m such a pussy, or I would’ve met all you guys. But the only slowtwitcher I met was mike coughlin. Nice guy, but Canadian, and didn’t even have the guts to apologize to me for Bryan Adams.

Yo ML, what’s more pathetic-your swim time or my run time?!?!?!? Ouch!

I wish I knew how to run…
