ST Historians: Foreign Policy Help Needed

I’m trying to find a topic for my “U.S. in World Affairs” class essay and I need some help drawing comparisons and/or correlations between our current foreign policies and those of previous administrations.

I’m thinking of writing about something along the lines of our containment policies toward Iran, but I’m not sure where to go from there.

I’m also considering writing on how our loans from China show a complete role-reversal from our days of dollar diplomacy or the Treaty and Nanjing, where we adopted the treaty system of trading.

Please keep the suggestions generalized, rather than too specific, so as to prevent me from using your thoughts while I write the paper.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not sure which way you professor is leaning so let me cover the bases:

How about containment policies of the Vietnamese war .vs Terrorist states?

How military engagements have changed since WW2?

How the Internet and cell phones have changed our fighting strategy.

How the govt. manufactures enemies to scare its citizens.

Globalism and fiscal policy. Sharing the failure.

He’s pretty progressive, so I try be inclusive of my own conservative viewpoints as well as that of the liberal viewpoint

I like the last two, namely because I can tie one into McCarthyism and the other into our expansionist policies.

Thanks!
