Anyone know if the bike course is very technical or just hilly?
Not technical. Just hilly.
anyone have any new/recent recon? there was some posted a few months ago.
I don’t think there is really much more to add other than what has already been written. Are you looking for some other specifics?

Some ST stud posted this review: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=2307225;search_string=ivins%20gunlock;#2307225
Course is not technical, descents are wide open roads with sweeping curves and pretty gradual downhills. The road quality from Ivins through Gunlock and Veyo is not good. Lots of sealed and unsealed cracks in the roads, rough road here and there and several cattle guards. I predict that some athletes will climb through the hilly Gunlock and Veyo sections and get up on the highway and then start over-gearing and hammering the gradual downhill back into Ivins/St. George rather than taking advantage of some free speed and keeping a higher cadence to move efficiently through this section.
I haven’t yet been out on the Run course but I’m very familiar with the roads and the terrain - this one is going to eat people alive. Truth is, it will be those who don’t have the right equipment on their bikes (specifically a power meter and the right gearing) that will be left with little or no chance on the run. Yeah, I’m gonna get flamed for saying that you HAVE to have a power meter - once you’ve raced with a power meter and compared it to racing with HR and Perceived Exertion I think there is no comparison in accuracy of your true effort.
I bought myself a Compact Crankset the week after I returned home from my recon trip on the St. George bike course. It will be a lifesaver.
Most challenging apect of this bike course will likely be wind.

And the conditions of the pavement in some parts
.
There’s almost no chance of there not being wind. It will be there and it could be real ugly.
Anyone know the total ascent of the bike course???
(1 lap or 2).
Not just the max altitude minus the minimum.
