Just wondering if anyone has a bit of clarity on am shuttle logistics.
Have a few people staying east around hurricane and the KOA, and just trying to figure out if they have to get into downtown to get their designated shuttle and then take it back to the reservoir…or if there is an open road on the backside that I could just drop them off at.
Or is the bus mandatory?? IE could they just spin in on a gravel bike 4-5km and leave it with me?
Thanks for any info,
Maurice
At StG 70.3 WC last year I remember this being a question but do not know the answer. There were definitely people that didn’t take the bus. There is a residential neighborhood across from the entrance to sand hollow that obviously wasn’t completely shut down.
I would recommend finding the 70.3 stg fb group and searching this question or trying to find a list of the roads they shut down for that race to plan.
This race specifically states the shuttles are mandatory. That was not the case for the 70.3 WC.
I was staying in Hurricane and just drove into SG and parked near the venue.
I almost missed my wave at the 70.3 WC because I tried to not take the shuttle. My wife dropped me near the start for the regular St George race and a volunteer told me that would probably work this time too. They were wrong! The roads were closed too far out for her to drop me off.
In retrospect, it really wasn’t too bad to take the shuttle. There were a lot of them, and they prioritized by racer/gender/age group to make sure people got there on time.
But FYI, don’t use the satellite stops-they just feed downtown, and it’s not that much further to drive to downtown in the first place.
And it REALLY sucked to learn all these things in the morning of the race!
