SRM Question (8)

Anyone know if SRM uses standard crank arms or do they modify them for use with the SRM? I am thinking of switching my arms for shorter ones but the prices SRM wants for a swap is crazy high. Thanks.

The LHS crank is unaltered, the RHS crank, however, is custom-machined to fit the SRM unit replacing the ‘traditional’ spider to which the OEM crank is attached. Unless you are (strongly) mechanically inclined and have the required machining equipment at your disposal, you’re better off getting the SRM-machined part. Performing the actual swap is reasonably easy (all tools req’d are available at Home Depot), but you will also have to re-calibrate the unit after the crank swap. Which goes back to the previous point … ‘unless you are (strongly) mechanically inclined …’

I figured as much. They want $700 for a $150 set of arms…seems high to me but then again it is an SRM so I shouldn’t bitch…thanks.

It depends… I think the SRAM ones are the same as the ones on the s900 crank. But if you are talking about Dura Ace then you have a problem. What size do you need I have a set of 172.5 arms that I’m not using.

It’s an FSA crank. Looking to get into some 170’s (I have 175’s).
