SRAM wheels?

Are the SRAM wheels just a re-bagged version of someone elses??

Anyone with good experience on there 60’s or 80’s clinchers? Are the fast, good feel?

tfun~

sram took over the formerly known flashpoint rims.

the 60s and 80s have the exact same rim profile as the zipp line up, minus the dimples. so yeah theyre very fast.

word on the street hed is coming up with some new stuff at interbike this year, might wanna wait for that.

what street is that?

What’s the word - hopefully something on the clincher front.

Not exactly. SRAM bought Zipp sometime last year so the s80’s use some of the 808 technology, BUT the SRAMs are different.

I know what you’re thinking: well, all SRAM did was apply SRAM stickers to wheels that are effectively FlashPoint wheels. (Again, for the uninitiated, FlashPoint is Zipp’s price point, Asian part sourced carbon race clincher). Yes, both rims are the same; a structural carbon fiber aero section bonded onto alloy rims, which are absent the dimples. And both FlashPoint and SRAM wheels have the same tunnel-designed and patent-protected rim shape that has made it a world-beater. And both keep the cost of the wheelsets low by using Japanese-made hubs and bearings.
But the SRAM S80s will allow you to keep your sanity; some may find the high volume freewheel buzz of a set of FlashPoints cool. I preferred the quieter hum that the pawls in the SRAM hubs emit. For sanity on a long ride, the SRAM wheels were more calming on descents.

The spokes on the SRAMS are alot better too, BUT they are very similar.

I’m on a set of S60/80s now when I just couldn’t make up enough reasons to explain the extra cash on the Zipps…
Very happy with them.

The SRAM wheels are asian made rims that are very similar to pre-dimple Zipps from 2004 but a little heavier. The hubs are from japan.

Overall the wheels are heavier than Zipps and the hubs not as good but overall they are a pretty good value.

I just got the SRAM wheels (S60 Front / S80 Back) and love them. They’re fast, reasonably priced, and I don’t have any concerns about wheel weight.

They are a little on the hefty side, but a nice aero wheel. I don’t think the price is any different from the Hed Jets, so you should consider them as well. They might be a little lighter, a little more aero and the Heds have a Campy option.

Additionally to everything else said, the Zipps are described as a fully-toroidal shape, and the SRAM wheels as semi-toroidal. I am taking that to mean the shapes are not the same.
