I don’t have much experience with the road gear(I just use Ultegra), but on my mountain bikes I have been replacing Deore/XT cassettes and chains with Sram for about 15 years and like the Sram a lot. Shifting quality is about the same, but the longevity of the Sram is a lot better. I’m not a power rider, but I have broken Shimano chains, and have never broken an Sram chain. And I do check for chain wear before every ride, and replace as soon as the Rohloff(sp?) indicates that I should.
The main thing i was think about if how people have found
the doudle tap shifters on the sram conpaired to the STIs on
shimano

I’ve got Ultegra / Dura Ace on my tri bike, and Rival on my cross rig. I really like the SRAM, and am contemplating switching over on my tri bike. The shifting feels much snappier.
whats the rest of your set up?
I was riding shimano ultegra/dura ace mix on my road bike and upgraded recently to full SRAM red. What a difference. I know you are looking for a rival review, but I’m happy with the red. Smooth shifting and I like the double tap.
whats the rest of your set up?
Tri Bike
RMS Sidewinder Ti (Custom) frame
Alpha Q fork
Ultegra front & rear derailleurs
D/A bar end shifters
FSA Gossamer 54/30 crank
Sram 11/28 cassette
Vision base bar, aero bars & brake levers
Cross Bike
Origin 8 Foxtrot frame, fork, stem & seatpost
Sram Rival front & rear derailleurs, shifters & 11/28 cassette

I just pulled the trigger on SRAM red on my new road bike. Can’t wait!

I’m running SRAM Force/Red on my road bike and SRAM Force on my TT bike. Trust me, GO WITH SRAM! You’ll love it. I still have Shimano on my road bike and I’m about to switch that over to Rival. I’m definitely a convert!
I should have it in a week or so. It’s gonna be hard to get me off the bike after RED arrives! Yeah, it’s already named…

my biggest concern is changing from sti to the double tap how long did it take to get used
to it and does and shimano crank work with sram gearing?
Andy
Double tap took about 5 seconds to get used to.
I upgraded the whole groupset (shifters, BB, cranks, brakes, etc) so I don’t know about a shimano crank working with the rest.
i was just wondering as i noticed how cheap the rival crank is so persumeed it cant be that good
.
Man you could climb with that setup. Do you mean 50/34?
I recently finished a weigth oriented road bike built and put a mix of force/red
once you get used to the double tap (i have had shimano most my life) its really good. I m liking it so far. the hoods ergonomics are better too
