SRAM RIVAL shift lever broke

SRAM RIVAL shifters, Is there a problem with the rear derailleur shifter? twice now the shift lever has snapped off. Any suggestions or has anyone had this problem?

i broke 2 pairs of the old 10 speed Rival shifters, and i’m sure you can find many others with the same story. Both the Rival and Force shifters were the same way. The Red version had sightly different internals and were more reliable.

So far i’ve had good luck with my Rival 22 (11spd) shifters.

The 2010 and 2011 shifters were notorious for this. It was a bad design and forging issue that they never admitted to. Did a club buy in 2010 and every single one of the dozens of right shifters broke in a couple of years. Good news is that SRAM have always been good at warrantying them. If you have a good relationship with your lbs go in and ask them, they might replace for free. If you ought on the Internet you may be out of luck. Contacting SRAM directly is almost impossible.

Should be amended to was eager to address the issue at one point. Had something similar happen to a 10-speed Rival RHS shifter (internals of the LHS shifters is the same as that found on 10-speed Red, and those were stout), and they replaced it, out of warranty. This was back in 2011.

In 2013 I bought a set of the 10-speed Red shifters under the newer design. Whereas my old 10-speed Red shifters (bought in 2010) were robust, the shifting paddle of the RHS shifter bought in 2013 sheared off in the middle of a race in 2016, while I was OTF. Sram said no dice this time.

I had to replace it with my old 10-speed Red shifter. That shifter was eventually sold to, you guessed it, someone who also snapped a Sram RHS shifter.

I broke 2 different 10 speed rival shifters back in the day. Sram replaced them free of charge both times. The second time they gave me a free upgrade to Force.

Not sure how old your shifters are at this point, but i personally wouldn’t expect them to replace them for free anymore if they are 10 speed. If they are the 10 speed, by now they probably have surpassed what most would consider their estimated lifecycle.
