Sram Rival 1 w/ 11-46

I would like to run a 11-46 cassette (Sunrace) w/ my Sram Rival 1 crank (40T) on my Trek Crockett. A couple questions:

  • I will put a long-cage Rival 1 rear derailleur on the back…Sram indicates the Rival 1 long-cage works with cassettes up to 42. I’ve heard conflicting things about running the 11-46. Will it work?
  • Chain sizing - Sram recommends wrapping the chain around the largest cassette & the chainring (NOT the derailleur) and adding 4 links - is this good advice (particularly given I am running a long-cage derailleur)?

If there are any other “tricks” please let me know. This is my first 1x setup.

I think it could work with the 46t cog. You may have to remove the b-screw completely and thread it in backwards, if cranking down the screw completely doesn’t give you enough clearance.
Plan C is to buy a WolfTooth road link.

I’ve always hated the “wrap the chain and add x links” suggestion. Just install the chain through the derailleur pulleys like normal, placing it in the fastest gear. Then cut the link to length that just barely adds tension to the derailleur cage. That’s the longest chain you can use. From there, you can shorten if you get too much chain slap.
