SRAM chain with Campy Record

I really like the powerlink feature on the SRAM chains - take mine off a lot. Is the above set up compatible?

Alex

SRAM claims so, but I haven’t tried it.

The SRAM 10 speed chains have a PowerLock link that isn’t removeable. It locks the chain together and replaces a link.

KMC and Wipperman 10 speed chains feature removeable links if you want to take your chain off easily.

Or, just buy a link and put it on your Record chain…how often do you remove your chain?

Remove it every week. Think I’ll go with the Wipperman.

Remove it every week.
Uh…why?

Ditto. I clean the chain every 100 miles, and pull it off to clean it, the cassette, chain rings, and derailleurs every 500. So I end up pulling it once a month.

The desert. Sand will wear expensive components out in a heartbeat if you don’t keep up on it.

Ever consider waxing the chain?

I use dry lube that’s designed for the application but when the wind kicks up it still blows that stuff into the drive train. I’m not working a real career these days so I’m really careful with my equipment investments. I really like tinkering with my bikes as well too. Thanks for the suggestion though.

It’s pretty rockin.

For a little bit last year, I used a KMC link with my Record chain and it works - kind of. The KMC is a little wider than the record links which results in a little bit of noise and it is not quite as smooth due to the tiny bit of slack, but there is no apparent obvious wear. If you put the bike up on a stand and pedal, you can see and hear the difference.

I just replaced a SRAM Hollow Link chain on my road bike that is Campy. I believe there are different versions of the Power link (red, gold etc) The one that was on my chain was a one use application and was not intended to be reused. I believe some of the other versions are reusuable but don’t quote me on that. When I walked into Nytro yesterday to get a chain the mechanic informed me that the SRAM chain would not work with Campy even though I told him that it had just worked fine for 5000 miles. He said that was what SRAM told him??!!
I decided this time around to just go with the Campy Record chain.

I’m using Campag Chorus chain with KMC link on two bikes with no problems. KMC make two links, one for Campag and one for Shimano. New Trek bikes that I’m building up are coming with KMC links instead of the Shimano joining pin, so that seems to be a thumbs up for compatibility and reliability.
