SRAM cassette option?

Hey all,

I’m building a nice SRAM Red/Force group and want a cassette to match. I’ve been told that the Red cassettes aren’t worth the money and that I should just go with PG 1070s. I don’t mind saving a few bucks on something that will wear out over a few months or maybe a year…but I also don’t want to skimp on quality.

Whatcha think?

10 spd, btw

all my bikes are build in sram red, and I’m always using ultegra cassette with KMC chain. Much cheaper, and work well…

KMC chain?

yeah sorry
kmc chain…

One thing I will say about the SRAM Red cassette is they don’t chew up the hub body. Or whatever you call it.

PG1070 is fine, no extra spacer is needed on most wheels…

What are you doing that wears out a cassette in a few months?

Riding LIKE A BOSS. No, I’m all honesty, I don’t know how quickly it will wear out. I imagined that if I picked up a used cassette, it may be worn out after a few months of heavy use?

Now to answer your question.

I run the 1070 cassette with a KMC chain and have been happy with it. For my money I would rather pick up 2 1070 cassettes then one 1090.

I agree with Quatro Creep. I’ve used 11-26 1070s for the last three years on both my bikes. Can’t beat 'em.

I have a 1070 (or whatevr the 9sp ones are numbered) cassette that is now 5 or 6 years old. Obviously, your mileage may vary.

The hollow Red cassettes do make a different noise. I assume because they are hollow and some sound resonates through them. But, boy are they light.

X2 I also run 1070 and KMC on both my bikes. Nice combination, not too loud, excellent shift quality.

DA cassette with a 1090 chain. Awesome combo.

Can you index a DA cassette/Red RD/TT 900 Shifter?

yes - one can

Can you index a DA cassette/Red RD/TT 900 Shifter?

+1

I will take 900TT over R2C any day
.

just won a Red cassette on eBay so I guess that makes my decision for me :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks for all the input…now the last question:

best bang for your buck in chains? I hear SRAM makes a helluva chain

From this thread alone:

"ultegra cassette with KMC chain
1070 cassette with a KMC chain
X2 I also run 1070 and KMC on both my bikes
DA cassette with a 1090 chain"

I have been very happy with the life I get out of the KMC X10sl. I have been swapping them out at around 3,000mi and they still have life left. My next choice would be DA, then a 1071 or 91.

I ride with one guy who swears by Sram chains only thing he will ride, another who runs DA chains, I like KMC. We are all shop mechanics all of our bikes shift well and run quite. The nice thing about a chain is they are like tires, wear through it and try something else until you find what works for you.
