Squeaky derailler pulleys?

I am ready to destroy these pulley wheels. They are clean and recently lubed but I cannot get ride of the squeek in my rear derailler pulley wheels. Any thoughts? Should I replace them? It is Dura-Ace 9spd.

Thanks

did you take them apart to clean them??

I soaked the chain in degreaser (love the SRAM links) pulled off the pulleys and degreased/scrubed them and lubed well before reassembling the whole sha-bang. Pulleys do have some miles on them though.

If you’ve ever ridden with that noise, you know it can drive a man insane.

Are you sure it’s the jockey wheels and not your chain? Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference.

I rely primarily on drip lube like Pedros Extra Dry for my chain, but I always keep a good spray lube around, too. I shoot both sides of my derailleur pulleys once a week. I also shoot the hinge points of the front derailleur 'cuz they tend to get gunked up with sweat rather easily.

Of course, regular cleaning and lubing are required. There’s nothing like a good cleaning and lubing to make noises magically disappear.

Chain is pretty new, and was soaked in degreaser overnight and thoroughly lubed with Ice Wax. I lubed the chain again thinking the same thing.

Wheel were taken apart and lubed from inside–>out. I made sure they are not “backward.”

Could it be time to get new wheels?

What kind of lube did you use? Grease (rather than chain lube or the like), hopefully.

It’s a Shimano mulitpurpose bike grease, neon green in color. I forget the exact name as the tub cracked and now it is in an old plastic cottage cheese container with “Bike Grease” written on it.

Should I just accept defeat and get new pulleys?

Maybe. It’ll probably set you back all of $20 or so.

Alright now I’m mad…new pulleys installed and I still get squeak!!! The chain is clean and lubed (Ice Wax) so I am literally speachless. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe try pulling the cluster off and grease the splines. If noise disappears, your hub is worn(?)

I had the same problem about a month ago. It was driving me CRAZY! I put in a new BB, removed and greased the pulleys, greased all the chainring bolts and pedal threads…still there. Turned out to be the chain. If it gets really dried out (especially since you soaked in solvent to clean it) the waxy lubes (I was using White Lightning) are thick and don’t always penetrate completely into the bushings to really coat and lube them. The bike shop mechanic soaked it really good with ProLink from ProGold and the squeek was GONE instantly. It started coming back just a bit after a few hours of riding and I lubed it good again and that’s the last I’ve heard, even during and after the rains at IMW. ProLink is a cleaning, penetrating, and conditioning oil. Find some and give it a try.

Man You gotta get a pair of anodized purple pulleys like I got. No squeeks whatsoever.
