Sports Drinks Without Maltodextrin

I was using Gatorade for the longest time during long workouts races etc…

I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding a replacement. I’m looking for sports drink that do not contain artifical flavors, sweetners, and Maltodextrin.

Is there such a thing out on the market? Or am I setting my sights to high?

Thanks

im curious why you are seeking to rule out maltodextrin?

that is a relatively healthy, effective form of carbohydrate, what sort of sugar are you hoping to ingest instead?

you could just pour table sugar into water but that would be less healthy by most measures (though possibly not mattering at all during workouts)

i have problems with gluten, and I was led to believe that matlodextrin was a form of starch?

I didn’t want a product that had refined or processed sugars (not natural)…Basically I’m looking to see if there is a product on the market that was gluten free, and as none-processed as possible?

maltodextrin is usually formed from corn in the usa, not wheat, so you would be ok. Even if it was created from wheat, the proteins are removed so it would still be safe.

as for non processed, what about your favorite fruit juice? I don’t think you would derive any health benefit from that over maltodextrin based sports drinks though, should be worse for you really.

the other option which I do sometimes, is just drink water, get the calories from real foods.

I’d suggest you check out www.vegasport.com. I’d say it’s one of the healthiest fueling company’s around and the sport gels are awesome! Good luck

If wheat was used to make the maltodextrin, it will say so on the label. Even then, all of the gluten protein should be removed, so it should be gluten-free.

I use a lot of Vega Sport products, there really good. Do you use his Electrolyte Hydrator? If so do you think it would wise to use it for a half ironman?

Fruit/fructose is more commonly a problem that maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is pretty neutral.

Here’s a suggestion:

If you have a problem with gluten it may be helpful to learn some nutrition & basic biochemistry

The only concern I would have with maltodextrin and gluten intolerance would be the processing location of the corn. Oats are actually devoid of gluten, but not always gluten free due to cross contamination.
