Anyone use it? Saw a guy in a kit the other day and it looked nice but never had a chance to ask him about it. Anyone know how sizing is compared to Castelli?
Bump for the European crowd…
I have a jacket and winter gloves. Good quality and value, I think. Sizing is more “Italian”, so quite slim fit (which I think is good).
I think Sportful is actually owned by Castelli, not sure if that has any influence on sizing but I’d assume its not too far off. I only have their basic armwarmers which are really nice, would probably buy more of their stuff when I need it as I generally don’t like the Castelli styling so much.
I use a lot of their kit. They’re the sister company of Castelli so sizing is identical as far as I’ve found.
The Pista Jersey is great if you’re just wanting a low cost jersey as are the Giro Short and. the Bodyfit range is great for the price.
Their winter kit is what moved me over to them the no rain bibs are my go to winter wear and their Fiandre No Rain suff is amazing, I don’t really leave home without this any more http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sportful-fiandre-light-no-rain-top/ planning on getting the shot sleave version too.
And the No Rain Jacket is like a Gabba+
I love the Sportful line of cycling gear. Very good athletic fit similar to Castelli and the prices are much less. Good quality in everything I’ve gotten from them so far too.
Thanks for the input. Does the No Rain stuff protect in a downpour?? Or only light rain? I think I will try out one of their kits… Looks like good stuff, and not loaded with logos like some others.
No Rain Light Top will get you through light rain, think of it as half way between a rain cape and wind vest.
The full no rain jacket will keep you dry and warm in heavy rain, eventually it will soak in but we’re talking after 2 - 3 hours of heavy rain. I used this most of the winter down to -10c and was fine with just a short sleave jersey on.
The no rain arm warmers, bibs etc are just like Castelli Nanoflex
Thanks for the input, much appreciated!
Sportful is owned by castelli and they are made in the same factory.
Yeah I have the;
R&D pro Bib
R&D bodyfit aero jersey
The Hot Pack No Rain stretch jacket
The Short and Jersey are their “pro-fit” read skin tight… this kit is for the 10% or less body fat crowd…
The short is good, chamois is fine, the jersey is superlite almost mesh like and superb in hot climate, but has poor UV coverage…
Neither are a patch on Assos kit, and the prices are not a million miles apart… i got it on sale form the UK at the end of their last summer… and just in time for our 2015 summer…
The Jersey i have had for a few years and it is excellent, also close fitting but plenty of room for a thermal layer and base underneath, good cut for in the drops without horrendous flapping in the wind… and it keeps the rain off very well… also packs down into its own pocket and pack… great jacket… (I also got that on sale mail order and whilst it was a risk re cut… it turned out very well).
In summary watch the fit it deffo Euro, ie close… but not rediculously so, and the cut are well sorted for the ride position…
Materials are good but not exceptional.
Construction has been fine… no issues.
Value was great in the sale but i wouldn’t buy it at or near RRP… i just keep getting ASSOS cos its exceptional and worth the spend for me…
Hope that helps in some way?
The bib-thights I have from Sportful have a much wider (non-atletic) fit than my Castelli thights.
Size M in Sportful has approx same lenght, but is wider (a bit too loose for me) than size L Castelli.
