Sponsorships and Kits and Races - Oh My

Thought this might need a seperate thread from the “WTC New Low…” thread.

Does WTC sponsor any athletes? Is anyone an “Ironman” sponsored athlete? We have Hilary sponsored by Rev 3 and Macca sponsored by Tri-Star. I’m sure there are other but these are 2 pretty high profile athletes. Rev 3 and Tri-Star have paid money to be on the kits of these athletes probably knowing full well that they will race in other events. Did they do this to try and “stick it to the man”?
If so, then maybe WTC was right in scrathing out the logos.
Could WTC sponsor the guys and girls that are competitive in R3 events and make them IM Billboards? Probably. Will they? Who knows.
My point here is that we are all giving WTC a hard time for taking a logo from a competing company off of a poster. Kind of a dick move but isn’t the fact that competing races are putting logos on racers in WTC events also a dick move?

Also - are we coming to a point here where the big races (WTC/Rev/Lifetime/TriStar) are going to have mandatory kit requirements? Like ITU stuff, maybe they will soon start to require all athletes (or maybe just the pros) to race in an approved kit. Wanna race a WTC race? Then you have to wear an IM kit that you can buy at Sports Authority.

Why don’t we take it a step further.

What a pack of arseholes the IOC and ITU are for not letting athletes wear the logos of sponsors that paid to get them there…

The WTC case is just stupid- like kids on the playground who don’t want to play with the others. It just shows how the bigger and more commercial it gets, the nastier the companies involved become. The logo rules for ITU are indeed ridiculous; if you have more than a few sponsors, they can’t be added. Their rules also take all the fun out of putting a design on a tri suit.
