Last call for discussion of mass start road racing
Things heating up in Norway. Some 23km left. The U.S. lucked out and was able to get back to a strong breakaway that went away earlier on the lap.
Dutch looks strong; the U.S. looks passive

boom goes the dynamite; Dutch in control. 3 of the 6.
My guess is that van Vleuten tries a long ranger next
It’s pretty sweet that athletes from such a flat country ride a hilly course so well.
and she actually crashed earlier in the race; totally bossed it.
Bad day for the U.S. They didn’t look ready.

that’s way too charitable
I recall cyclocosm doing an analysis of the 2013 Worlds, noting how the U.S. decided to play the role of Team Sky and just control the break, as opposed to putting a rider into the break and making others chase, all the while when the U.S. didn’t really have an ace card to play. When they actually got smart in 2015 and sent a rider into the break (Rivera, iirc), they actually did quite well, though granted, Guarnier didn’t crash that day.
So here’s what the U.S. does when Rivera was the only viable card to play, with Guarnier having crashed. No idea why they are chasing, when there are other teams interested in keeping the break in check for their own sprinter.
Quite stupid, b/c this is what happens when the actual attack rained down on the penultimate lap. The climbers who may have had a chance burned their legs up chasing…

I’m going with
Kwiatek, GvA, and Matthews
Sagan and Gilbert as wildcards
Actually, more like Dumoulin, Wellens, and Naessen wild cards, but so it goes.
what feed is working best?

Eurosport player; unless if you live in the UK, in which case BBC has it
steephill.tv should have links.
Sagan is in stealth mode, ala Richmond. I’ll go with him again.
Kristoff is inspired. Viviani looks fresh. Alaphilipe needs a harder race and a more reduced group at the end.
Phil Gil goes long once the break is brought back. GvA right there with Mathews.
I wonder how Wellens would finish if he weren’t so hyper aggressive. Love the style though.
Tejay out.
Great race.
yeah all the feeds I pull up have massive breaks and delays… not sure if it’s me or them

If you have VPN ($6-7/month), you can tunnel to any of the European countries and get live coverage from their national broadcaster
Do you happen to have NBCSN? Apparently it’s being shown live on the Olympic Channel

Great race.
also great scenery. Monument Blvd may look nice, but it doesn’t compare to the harbor views here
So much for throwing everything at Sagan, almost a perfect race for him so far.
I left out Johnny Moscone. He’s a beast.

He’s hid himself well
Matthews may be favored here.

good call
Sagan…wow 3 in a row

holy shnikees…bike racing…bike throw for WC
wasn’t that long ago when Sagan wasn’t a “smart” racer…brilliant ride
.
he wasn’t physically the strongest, but landed his punche(u)r’s chance when it mattered; impressive.
